The Science of Deduction, Friday

There was absolutely nothing special about the classroom today. Despite, or perhaps because, the fact that this should be their final exam.

"I have no intention of giving you a test today," Sherlock informed them kindly as he typed something into his phone. "If you hadn't realized I have no patience for traditional academia, you have already failed this class. The few of you who have learned something would do best to find a case of their own. The rest... I trust will find solace in whatever celebration for the end of the semester you have planned."

Looking up from his phone finally, Sherlock gave them all a critical once over. "If you must do something, read your classmates. Miss Frost, of course, is at an advantage, but don't let that deter you."

This could be actually pretty fun! Ariel definitely couldn't complain about this for her last test, so she narrowed her eyes and tried to look particularly difficult to read as she looked around for a partner.

Ben gave her a quick smile. "Give it your best shot," he said.

"Hmmm," said Ariel, tilting her head and looking particularly thoughtful as she thumbed in chin while looking Ben's face over. The quick grin didn't give much, and she didn't know exactly what they were supposed to be reading for, but perhaps that was all part of it. You had to deduce that part as well.

"I'm...going to say...you're...thinking about this being the last day of classes."

That seemed...a good starting point and she could work from there.

"Because you are?" Ben countered with that same unhelpful smile.

"Well, no," Ariel reasoned with a chuckle. "I mean, I was, but, really, I'm thinking about figuring out what you're thinking about."

His roommate being an idiot, mostly, but Ben wasn't sharing that with anyone.

"Sort of," he said instead. "Mostly wondering what classes next semester might be like." He blushed. "I like to study."

Some of that might even be true.

That admission paired with that blush was not doing anything for Ariel's giggles.

Maybe Sherlock will learn his lesson about not giving a more structured...lesson if she kept it up.

"I hope they're just as fun as this semester!" she said. "Although they've always been fun, so, yes, I have high hopes! Are you hoping for anything in particular?"

She...might be forgetting about the whole reading thing in favor of conversation, yes.

Ben shook his head. "I've learned to not be surprised by anything I see on the class offerings. Some of the summaries are bizarre."

Reading people. Pfft. Claudia leaned back in her seat with her phone and . . . looked her fellow students up online.

What? It was totally reading. . . .

James was ready to appraise fellow classmates. Possibly down to the change in their pockets.

Will was here, of course, trying to not look too disappointed that this was the last class.

Bruce was here as well, not looking disappointed at all. He learned a lot. Time to move on.
