Dan didn't know why he braved the stinktastic bog outside the school to come here today. Maybe out of some nerd loyalty. Whatever the reason, he was here and pretending nothing weird was going on because denial was the best medicine. Or something.

Sherlock simply hummed thoughtfully at that, typing away like a madman. "Coffee?"

John sighed with a sort of resigned irritation, and slipped from Sherlock's side for a few minutes.

When he came back, he was holding a large cup of coffee. He set it down by Sherlock's side.

The nod he received was possibly a thank you. For him, at least.

"Anything new?"

"Well, the Labyrinth isn't getting any smaller, that's for sure," John noted, idly. "Other than that, precious little."

"That's one way of putting it," John said, and pursed his lips. "I'd say it was bloody bonkers."

"But you're never bored," Sherlock reminded him kindly.

"No," John acquiesced, "But quite frankly, I'd rather the excitement doesn't come at the expense of everyone else."

Sherlock shot him a look out of the corner of his eye. "Isn't that how most excitement comes?"

"And we're working to stop that," Sherlock replied with a wave of his hand that, somehow, did not interrupt his typing.

John reminded himself that this was not the time, but he did huff out an irritated breath. Finally, he said, "I should get back to the clinic."

"Yes, yes. Avoid the swamp, if you'd be so kind."

He didn't need the hotel rooms to smell like that for days on end.

"Will do," John said, and turned 'round, slipping out of the library a minute later.
