The Science of Deduction, Friday - 12/3

There was a note outside the classroom today, letting the students know to meet in the Danger Shop for class. Someone enjoyed that room a little too much for setting up examples.

"Today we'll be looking into the observation of an unaware subject," Sherlock informed them upon arrival. He possibly definitely gave William a sharp look. Because, really now. Really. "First lesson is that we do not accept drinks from the targets. Especially not ones who have picked up on your presence."

And that would be another look aimed at poor William.

"And if they do give you a drink, you leave because they've seen you," he added with a smile that was nowhere near genuine. "So, today you're all to spread out and attempt to observe one of your classmates without being noticed. I understand this may be a difficult task, but try to blend in."

A beat.

"Even with the hats."

Goddamn Fandom.

Deal, Ben said, grinning at her and then reaching out quickly into the Force to give Tahiri a quick warning about what he was about to try before shrinking his Force-sense down to being nearly undetectable.

He didn't add the usual "you don't see me" mental push toward the rest of the class. He only wanted to check to see if Emma would be able to see him in the psychic game of hide and seek.

Emma put her hands over her eyes and immediately began counting backwards softly, to give Ben an idea about how much time he had. When his twenty was up, she kept her eyes closed and quickly scanned for him mentally.

OK, nothing she identified as 'Ben' immediately, but there were the right number of lights to represent all her classmates. Emma quickly started cataloging and then filing people off to the side, until she came upon the star that was clearly Ben, and felt like Ben, and yet didn't read the same way he normally did. If she hadn't been looking and known he was here, she never would have spotted him.

It still look longer than Emma's ego liked.

After Sookie's abduction, Karla had been keeping a closer 'eye' on her friends than usual. Call it paranoia or an overworked abandonment complex, but she wasn't going to let another one of her friends vanish on her if she could help it.

Which meant that when Ben did his stupid hiding-in-the-Force party trick (she really hated that one), it wasn't long before Karla noticed. From the dorms.

*?!* Not even real words, just a burst of concern and surprise. Wasn't he supposed to be in class?

Class exercise, he sent back when he'd reemerged. I wanted to test something. Everything's fine.

Now he was getting a line of exasperation, still tinged with traces of anxiety. Stupid kidnappy werewolves. *Don't do that,* Karla complained. *It freaks me out.*

Honestly, Ben. It's like you didn't realize you needed Karla's permission to use the Force.
