So You Say You Want a Revolution: Week 12, Period 3

When the students arrived in their classroom, they would each find a note on their desk.  Each note read the same thing.

Dear Class,

By now you will have hopefully learned something that could be applicable to your home situation. Seeing as though many of you will be returning there this week due to the holiday weekend, discuss amongst your groups what you feel you could take from this class to use at home. Be prepared for your final non-exam class next week.

Love, Aly

Aly was no where to be immediately seen - though it was an interesting question if she were around and watching or not.

Did anybody here actually want Luke to take stuff he learned back home with him?

It didn't matter at the moment; he was staying here for break. But he could think of stuff he'd like to put into use one day. You know, once he somehow magically gained the ability to plan instead of acting like an impulsive idiot.

Elphaba didn't think there was much she could take back, anyway. Not that she was going anywhere. In fact, she diverged from the topic entirely.

"There's a holiday?" she asked.

"Yeah, Thanksgiving. American holiday," Luke said. "People get together with their families and eat a bunch of food and talk about how grateful they are to have each other."

Luke watched a lot of movies and had an idealized vision of holidays. He didn't have a nice childhood, leave him alone.

"That sounds rather pleasant," Elphaba said, unable to imagine such a gathering with her own family. As long as no one mentioned the turkey, she'd be all for Thanksgiving. "At least, for those who have families that are grateful."

She really, really didn't.

"Yeah it seems kind of cool," he said, nodding. "I've never been a part of one before, but movies make it seem nice."

"Will there be some sort of celebration here?" Elphaba asked, since she'd somehow missed all the StuCo Thanksgiving announcements and posters.

"Uh, yeah, there's a dinner thing," Luke said. "Student Council is holding it tomorrow."

Nico really didn't think he wanted Luke to take stuff he learned home with him, but alas. At least he could quietly pick Luke's brain about other things while they were stuck in a group together.

"What are the odds this Thanksgiving thing means I don't have detention this week?"

"I bet Aly will make you and Percy wash all the dishes from the StuCo Thanksgiving thing," Luke said helpfully. "If she hasn't thought of that yet I might suggest it to her."

"Uh, let's not give her ideas, Luke," Nico recommended. "I like my free time the way it is."

"Your free time is not my problem," Luke teased.

"Maybe I should start a fight and get you dragged into the world of minimal weekend free time with Percy and I." Such a bad idea, and yet Nico was sorely tempted.

Luke chuckled. "I'm not Percy. You can't bait me into a fight. I'd wait until after class to get you back."

[identity profile] deaths-demigod.livejournal.com 2010-11-24 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
"It'd be pretty fruitless," Nico couldn't help but agree. It didn't help that anything Nico could think of to bait Luke was nothing he'd be willing to say. "I'll suggest it to Percy."

"We fight enough without people pushing us to do it, thanks," Luke said. "I wouldn't even hit him in class."

No, Luke liked sucking up to authority figures too much to do that.

"Sounds like someone's a goody-goody." Shocking it wasn't Nico. Really.

"Hey, don't underestimate the power of being a suck up," Luke said. "You get all sorts of benefits."

And sometimes it backfires and you become teacher's pet so well that they decide to use your body as a vessel. Whoops.

"What sorts of benefits?" Nico asked, not sure he knew. "It's not like we need grades or whatever it is the kids here are getting at the end."

"Well, you won't be likely to get detention every Saturday for the foreseeable future," Luke said with a smirk. "And, hey, sucking up helped me get to be camp counselor."

"I always thought that was just you being the best of the Hermes kids," Nico replied, not having realized there was any sucking up needed. But then, Nico had lived in a cabin all to himself.

"That's how I kept the position," he said. "But I wasn't the only Hermes kid when I got to camp. I had to earn my position."

"Who'd you beat out of it?" Nico asked like the interested little dork he would always be deep down inside.

"Chris Rodriguez," Luke said. "He's a little younger than me, but he's been in camp longer. He's a good guy."

He'd also be one of the first demigods to join Luke. And then Luke would repay him by sending him into the Labyrinth to go crazy.

That was the part Nico knew about. Luckily he also knew Chris had gotten help from Mr. D and Clarisse.

"He is," Nico agreed easily. "How'd you beat him?" Look, Nico liked storytime when it came to Luke. Percy, not so much.

"You mean aside from the fact that I'm just more talented than most people in almost every way?" Luke asked, mostly joking. "I was better with the unclaimed cabin eleven kids than he was."
