So You Say You Want a Revolution: Week 9, Period 3

"Hope you all enjoyed your guest teacher last week," Aly said, looking tanned from a week in the Copper Isles. "The Doctor gave you all a good report -" she smirked, remembering the exact words "- except for something about not arguing about grammar? Good call, life's way too short."

She gestured to the class to gather around the cut open (think dollhouse) scale model of the school. A scale model in all aspects like only the Danger Shop could provide. The school was set up as a working castle with an outer wall, guards, an armory, and all sorts of little people wandering about to do their daily jobs, milking cows, making bread, patrolling the walls, sharpening their swords, etc. The Principal's Office had been transformed into the throne room of a tiny king. "You're working in your groups today, and what I'd like you all to do is come up with a plan to infiltrate - and hold - this castle. You're getting way more information than you'd normally have in a situation like this so make use of it. Also you can use any personal powers or skills you have in your group, but I'd rather that's not all you focus on. If someone can melt the stone of the outer wall, that's great, but you still might need someone to subdue the fighters inside or the talk the King into surrendering. Use all your resources including those listed on the board to make up your plan." She glanced around, looking for any questions. "And I can't promise that your class next week won't be actually carrying out these plans."

When she flipped around the white board, the board only read:

Use your imagination. No guns. Bombs are fine.

Kyle examined the model. "The wall is new, but I've thought about how to defend the main building before."

"Really?" Rinoa asked. "What would your first move be?"

"Securing the ground floor. The windows are weak spots and the kitchen is dangerous because it opens into the cafeteria which is a big open area that'll allow access to the rest of the building and is harder to defend because of weak cover. If we had a choice about how to get in, I'd go through one of the upper levels."

"Aerial assault?" Rinoa asked, impressed at how much thought Kyle had put into this. "Do we have aerial units? Are we allowed to assume we have them?"

She could cover the aerial aspect herself, if need be. But she didn't want that as public knowledge just yet.

"How many units do we have, anyway?" she asked. "It's gonna take a sizeable force to hold the castle without spreading ourselves too thin."

"Depends on the tech we have," Kyle supposed. "But yeah, what we do will depend on how many people. If it's only our group, we should probably try for quiet infiltration instead of a full assault. If we can get in via the upper levels, gas canisters are probably the way to go. Something to knock everyone unconscious, then go in with gas masks and take the next level. If there's gas, assuming there's no one immune, people will try to get away from it. We can drive out as many of the people as possible. The important thing will be to make sure no one holds up in the library or in here. They're too easily defensible."
angelo_wings: (should have expected that)

Rinoa was going to stare for a few seconds. Why did the Forest Owls not have someone like Kyle involved? Seriously. They might have gotten a lot further, if they did.

She turned over his plan in her mind, and looked for potential difficulties.

"We'll have to be careful," she said, finally. "If we're driving people out, there will be a lot of chaos. If the King's bodyguards are any good, they'll use that to try to get him out, too."

"Do we want to keep the king?" He wasn't used to fighting people.

Hey hey, Percy didn't need a moat to do things. He could summon up water from within him (even if it had nearly killed him that one time) so they were good.

Of course, he was still thinking and wondering if he did want to use those powers of his in front of people that weren't his cousins.

"We could use our spies to get a small group of men inside the castle during the day," Faramir said as he studied the model. "They can take out the guards at the gate and let in the rest of the men. It would be important to take the castle quickly with a minimum of causalities if we are to stand a chance to hold it later."

"You don't think they'd be expecting something like that?" Percy wondered. "Better be some really good spies to get through defenses and gain that level of infiltration."

"Perhaps, but getting in one man at a time in a castle isn't impossible," Faramir motioned towards the servants. "It is always busy, there are many tasks to perform. Moving cattle in and out. I would think that at this point of the revolution, you know which men can be trusted. Either way, it will have more chance to succeed than a full out siege would."

"Good point," Percy said, nodding slowly. "Going in in plain sight would probably be less suspicious than sneaking in too."

Unless the sneaking in was a secret passageway but the Daedalus' labyrinth was gone so Percy pushed that thought away.

"How many would you send in? Two? Three? It'd have to be quick so the guards can't draw attention to themselves."

Faramir nodded thoughtfully. "It would depend on the skills we have at hand," he mused. "I would not go fewer than three. There is a chance they might catch one of the men we try to send in, then they would have to deal with heightened security. Of course, the more we send in, the higher the chance of getting caught."

"Guess the selection of who goes in would depend on who has what skill," Percy replied, shrugging. "I'm not a great spy. I tend to draw attention."

"I suppose I would fall under the heading of looking harmless," Cally offered, building off what Percy and Faramir had discussed. "I'm not sure how far that is from the truth if I don't have a gun, though."

"Communications," Cally acknowledged. "I'm a telepath; if I'm inside, I could probably contact any of you on the outside without needing technology or arousing suspicion. It would only be one-way, though."

"That might be helpful though," he said, trying to think like a leader. He tended to get shoved there by default and even then, there was little to no planning involved. "Maybe you could be unobtrusive enough to just walk right in? Somehow?"

"Perhaps. With the right clothing, to match that of the people already within."

"If you could do that, you could relay areas of weakness and number of troops?" Percy suggested. "It shouldn't be too hard to figure out what people in the castle would wear."
