It would be a very, very silly mistake to assume that, just because today was Halloween, Jonothon wouldn't be in the library.

Okay, granted, Jono actually liked Halloween, particularly on this side of the ocean, where being a little freakish and a little frightening was more or less encouraged. He could handle that. In fact, he did 'freakish and frightening' like a pro.

... That said, wearing the costume that he'd worn to Petey Sci-Fi last night was about as good as he was going to be able to do. He'd spent money on the damned thing, he might as well get some use out of it, even if he couldn't play his rock-and-roll horn while singing Hot Patootie.

Some of the effect was probably lost on the fact that he was way, way more scrawny than Meat Loaf.

Who is hard at work, trying to shelve books in spite of the fact that the library is being extra tricksy and shifting where everything goes whenever he turns his back.

Jonothon looked down at himself, raised an eyebrow, and then shrugged. The last time he'd checked, slingshots were not intended to be worn as jewelry, but who was he to nitpick the classics?

He had to ask, in case he was missing something that was stunningly clever that had hit popular culture in the past fifteen years, or something.

"I'm not really dressed as anything," George said cheerfully. "I'm wearing a mask. That's about all the effort I'm putting in, to this whole costume idea."

She'd gotten the mask from that new store downtown. So, you know. That would end well.

"I don't really go for the candy, anyway," George admitted, grinning in a way that should have unnerved Jono, and probably did. "I just like getting to look into people's houses."

No, seriously.

"So ... what if I'm ... actually ... Bizarro George?" she suggested. "The mask is the only way you can tell us apart. But I'm not George. I'm all ... compassionate and I give a fuck about things and I'm really sincere a lot."

(The houses bit is seriously canon. MY CANON IS WEIRD AND I LOVE IT)

Ariel, in her oh-so-clever mermaid costume, had to swing by the library, just to see if Jono had dressed up, but, unfortunately, she couldn't really tell.

So she tilted her head and just told him so. "Are you just you for Halloween?"

Really, Jono. If she didn't know who Joni Mitchell was, she wouldn't know Petey Sci-Fi.

Ariel beamed for a moment, giving a little turn to show off her fake fabric (and sparkly!) fins, and bob her head in appreciation. "Why, thank you," she said. "I figured, Halloween, right? Better go all out for something you're definitely not."

He really wished that he did, though.

And another parallel that Jono wasn't bringing up was the fact that Frddie also ended up without his insides through the course of the film.

Ariel turned a bit pink at his compliment, but not too much. Really, running the risk of it being revealed that she wasn't exactly stretching was even more daring. "Thanks! And you should have borrowed my saxophone! Complete the look. Or given your guitar a costume, too, and make it look like a saxophone!"

Elphaba was not in costume. Mostly because no one had bothered to tell her there was a holiday today. Or what it was about.

Instead she'd come to the library to get some new books and return the ones she'd been reading.

"Hello, Jonothon," she greeted, stepping up to the counter with her returns. "I hope you are well today?"

Actually, this had been a pretty terrible week in general, and he was mostly just trying to coast through the aftermath along with his good friend, denial.

Elphaba made a little half frown, but nodded. "I've been alright. Thankfully didn't die of awkwardness in Professor Perrault's office this week. It's been an... educational sort of week, I think."

She looked a little embarrassed, all things considered.
