Ethics [Thursday, October 21, 2nd period]
For the last few semesters, Anakin had called on his experiences in the latter part of the Clone Wars for the midterm subject matter. With Leia on the island, that wasn't exactly a safe area for him to explore right now.
"Today we talk about wrath," he began, pacing through the cramped, dirty quarters of the ship the students found themselves aboard. "Last week, my wife used up the last of my hair gel, so I leveled the apartment and we had to move," he said, then gave them all a little smile. "Not really." He'd just sulked for an hour. Anakin wasn't exactly the most mature person, well, ever.
"When I was thirteen years old," he said, "and had built my first lightsaber, my master and I were sent on an assignment to protect a diplomatic vessel from attack from a T'surr slaver named Krayn." We waved his hand and the giant blue alien appeared in the center of the room. "Our mission was simple: to disable Krayn's ship and return to our own."
He held up a finger: "However. Krayn was a slaver, and had been for almost a decade. He had ruined countless lives, had raided slaves from a multitude of systems--" including Tatooine, but Anakin wouldn't be mentioning that, "--and his slaves were used to process spice: itself an illegal, dangerous narcotic in our galaxy, which had made him very, very rich, not to mention extremely powerful. Your choice in the assignment today is simple: follow your master and disable the weapons systems of this ship and escape, or break off on your own and try to track down Krayn and free the slaves on this vessel."
With a gesture from Anakin, lightsaber hilts appeared in the air above each student. "Remember what you have learned about the dangers of anger and pride. Choose wisely. May the Force be with you. You may pair up with a fellow student if you'd like."

Listen to the lecture [10/21]
The captain of the ship could be anywhere.
And think fast, because the engine room isn't exactly empty. You'll have three seconds when the simulation springs to life to start moving before the slavers start shooting.
Aren't midterms fun?
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
He grabbed the sword hilt when it appeared and made the glowing blade appear after a moment of fiddling, making sure he could use the weapon without injuring himself or others (unintentionally).
He marched to the door, jaw set, ready to see this through.
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
"Trippy," she remarked with an amused little quirk of her lips as she took stock of the engine room and the frozen figures with guns pointed at her. Luckily she'd done a couple of fighty-type missions with Anakin and some of the Jedi kids before, so she had a pretty good idea of how you were supposed to switch the lightsaber on.
It took her a second to figure out where the power switch on hers was (see above re: sci-fi geek), but once she did and she thumbed it on and the blade crackled to life with that funky snap-hiss noise?
"Holy freaking shit. Awesome."
...and then the simulation started up, and she had to start running like hell with a yelp, and that was how Kennedy discovered that her reflexes were, in fact, not good enough to deflect blaster bolts with a blade that had no mass what the hell how did you get a feel for this thing?
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
Besides which, she didn't understand the lesson. Wasn't the only sensible thing to do here to follow orders? What did following orders have to do with wrath?

Lucky for her, she was a quick study.
Not so lucky for the slaver who got to find out that waiting three seconds for a Mord'Sith to attack was three seconds too long.
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
And she knew, too, what she would do.
The--light up sword she'd been given for this exercise was not her usual sort of weapon and Rosalind added that to her list of considerations.
In this case, in this mission...
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
She only needed to choose what the right action would be. Either following the orders right to the end, or acting accord her own principles.
Once she stopped drooling over the piece of awesome that her lightsaber was.
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
Elphaba ducked against a wall, her heart racing. She couldn't help but shut her eyes tightly. She wished with all her might that they'd stop shooting at her. She just wanted it to stop.
"Stop it, stop it, stop it!" she shouted.
And from deep within her, the inherent magic that lay so often untapped because she didn't know how to control it or summon it, it sprung to life for a moment. And the two slavers that had been shooting at her started moving like jerky marionettes, unable to control their actions. Elphaba realized she'd done it again, used that strange quirk her father always told her to never utilize again. But now, even though the danger hadn't been 'real', it felt as if it had made her safe.
She then had to make a decision. Follow the man who knew where to go, or free those enslaved.
It wasn't a hard decision, for her. Even if she was half terrified.
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
He was glad she'd been taking fencing lessons with James. But mostly she used her magic on the slavers.
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
This would make for an interesting class.
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
Unfortunately there wasn't really time to do anything beyond that first experimental swing, because suddenly running became a priority.
Re: Listen to the lecture [10/21]
Why wasn't freeing the slaves part of their mission?! They couldn't just leave them here, condemned to lives of harsh servitude! And it didn't make any sense, from what Squall had gathered about Jedi and their motives.
(There must be a good reason. It's probably not workable, logistically.)
He surveyed the room quickly as he grabbed the lightsaber and flicked it on. If this was their point of entry... then there probably wasn't a good way to rescue the slaves without commandeering the ship. He wondered how many guards there were.
(Sometimes, the hard decisions have to be made.)
When the shooting started he cast Shell on himself, and then Protect. The laser bolts began slamming against an invisible wall around him, losing enough of their energy as they passed through the barrier that they barely hurt when they struck him.
Run for the weapons system!
cutecompetent-looking Jedi Master toward the weapons?Re: Run for the weapons system!
"Would it be possible," she asked, very politely, "to add an additional objective to this particular mission?"
Rescuing the slaves, if they could. But Rosalind, in this particular case, was not counting on it. There was always a chance of a future mission being organized to save the slaves.
They were already slaves, if need be they could be slaves for a little while longer. It wasn't like they had any idea of a potential save at the moment. There would be no false hope given to them, she thought.
[...I almost feel like I should apologize for this somehow, omigod.]

Doing the mission and coming back for him sounded like the best choice, if not her favorite.

cutecompetent looking, so Scully followed with her weapon out, ready to shoot at any slavers as they attacked.Look for Krayn!
cutecompetent Jedi Master and into the unknown!Three guesses which one Anakin chose...not that he's exactly the best guide on, well, anything.
Re: Look for Krayn!
She could hear Constance now, telling her to stay focused on the mission, but nothing about the concept of letting something that screwed up keep happening if she could stop it sat well with her. And she figured, the current Slayer hadn't exactly saved the world, what was it, four times now by following the rules. ('cause if she did, she wouldn't have cut off the Council, and Kennedy might actually know more about what she was doing.)
So off into the unknown it was.
The Jedi Master wasn't that cute to her anyway.Re: Look for Krayn!

OOC
As a warning, which your characters won't know, if you chase Krayn, Obi-Wan finishes the assignment and then leaves your sorry Jedi butt behind. It's amazing Anakin ended up Dark Side, huh?
Re: OOC
How moddable are the slavers? I'm thinking the stress of being shot at might be a good raw-magic freak-out trigger for Elphaba.
