The Club Fair - Gym - Friday Afternoon 9/24/10

To be perfectly honest, Blackagar wasn't sure how he ended up being in the gym this afternoon. Let alone being one of the first people there.

But that was just how life worked sometimes.

Plus, it gave him a chance to look over the new clubs first! Score for him.

Ben was there on a break from his first day of work (in retrospect, he could have planned things better), but he was ready to answer any questions people might have.

Leia was checking out the fair and wandered over to Ben's table when she spotted him. "Is this one of those things I shouldn't ask about?" she said, eyeing the name of the club.

He smiled a little ruefully. "Probably. There are a few wars between your time and mine."

"I already know what I lose," Leia said quietly. Not all, not by a long shot. "I don't even know how to deal with a loss that hasn't even happened yet." But compartmentalizing and repression did wonders.

For a moment Ben's eyes widened, wondering if she'd heard about Alderaan. "Which loss is that?" he asked carefully.

"Anakin," Leia said. She hadn't really talked to anyone about him yet because complete denial seemed the more sensible option.

Ben looked sympathetic. "You shouldn't have to mourn someone you haven't met yet," he said quietly.

"But I did meet him," Leia pointed out. "How do you think I found out? He was here when my mother was." Had it been two months already?

He shook his head. "You'll get years with him before then," he replied, "and those should be enjoyed as they happen, not tinged with wondering when the other boot will drop."

Another reason why he hadn't really wanted what Jacen had become to get out.

"I'm not sure I understand," Elphaba said. "What will the group be doing?"

The qualifications of joining, at least, made sense to her.

"Not a lot of support groups where you're from, huh?" Ben replied.

Elphaba shook her head. "Not that I've seen. But then, most wouldn't have me," she said. "It's just that, then? Support through common trauma?"

"Basically," Ben said, nodding. "It's not generally the kind of thing you want to drop on people watching a movie in the common room, you know?"

"No," Elphaba admitted. "Even if it'd probably be of more value than most movies."

She thought for a second, and made a decision. "I think I should join, then." She said it with an authoritative nod, that made her glasses slide just a little down her nose.

"I'd be happy to have you," he said with a smile.

Now that got a smile out of Elphaba, though she tried to surpress it. "There's a phrase I don't usually hear. Are you sure you're not mad?"

"Mad like angry or like out of my mind?" Ben replied.

"There are enough students in that position here to form a group?" Cally asked, eying the sign thoughtfully.

"Sadly, yeah," Ben said. "Not like it comes up at parties, but word gets around."

"That is sad. Though I suppose, given some of the worlds I've heard other students describe, I shouldn't be so surprised." Cally shook her head. "It's rare on Auron, to lose family to anything but old age."

"My father's teacher was 900 years old before he died," Ben replied, "but Master Yoda was from a very long-lived species."

Whatever that species had been.

"That certainly stretches the scale for 'old age.' My people have lifespans comparable to humans; perhaps a bit longer due to selecting for healthier children, but nothing like that."

"We have a bounty hunter who's still active at practically ninety or something," Ben said, rolling his eyes. "I think it's because ~~the fanboys demand more Fett~~ everyone's too afraid to tell him to retire."

Cally blinked at him once, then chuckled. "I think there are a few proctors at our education centre like that."

He smiled back. "Are you just stopping by to chat, or does this club have something you're looking for?"
