Sam's eyes widened. "No, don't drop the class, John. I've...just got a lot of other stuff to deal with, and what you dumped on me...it didn't help. Yes, it's...a little strange between us right now. We'll get over it."

John sighed, and weight dropped off his shoulders. "Yeah, I've called Kawalsky a few times to see how you were, bceause I wasn't sure if you wanted to talk to me. And, I haven't been working on the bike like I should, because I didn't want to run into you with wrenches again. And... I need to stop starting sentences with 'and' because it's obnoxious."

John stopped blathering.

"I'd like us to be friends. You're a good crazy and you like tools. There's hope for you."

"Honestly? I didn't want to see you, John. I didn't want to talk to you. What you told me--it ripped apart one of the core aspects of my personality, of who I am. Without technology, without making things work...I don't know who Sam Carter is. You pulled that apart."

She looked away from him. "I'm sorry I threw the wrench. That was uncalled for."

"I've been growing up with some sort of Messiah complex because of what the future is supposed to hold. And if I STOP that future, if I change it so the world doesn't end, I don't exist. So I can kinda relate about soul shattering. I'm sorry I swung that kinda hammer at ya. And thanks for believing in me."

"I know. I have the best friends in all of explored space ever. I...I'm just not really comfortable talking about it. I have a tendency to want to solve problems and take care of things myself."

She smiled ruefully. "You know, if you hadn't noticed already."
