Shop Class #3

Mac is sitting in his chair as the students file in.

"I hope you remembered your homework today, because that's the only way you are going to pass today's assignment."

[OOC: You were to come up with a method of making a smokescreen. Please post your responses in my comment(s) below]</small]

Illyana looked at her list. She would need chalk dust, a low velocity fan and a few industrial flares.

"I need pool chlorine and nonsilicone brake fluid, a bucket and a cup."

When these are produced, Han mixes two measures of the chlorine and three of the brake fluid in the bucket. Thick, black noxious smoke roils out.

"Don't breathe it," he warns, studying the laser pattern. In a few seconds he has the safe route planned and is through to the table.

"I need some dry ice and either a plastic cooler or a Pyrex glass container, a piece of black paper, a piece of cardboard, and some rubbing alcohol."

Sam carefully slices the piece of paper and cardboard with the swiss army knife. She places the cardboard in the bottom of the Pyrex container, then the black paper on top of that.

She pours the rubbing alcohol onto the paper, where it is absorbed. She then uses tongs to place the dry ice on the paper. The resulting clouds/fog cover make it possible to see the lasers and she makes it through the pattern without incident.

Finished, she nodded at Mac about the assignment and waited to see if anyone else needed help. "Do you want to talk about the assignment now, or wait until after class?"

She climbed up on one of the counters and took a seat, so they were looking at each other eye to eye or mullet to mullet. "I'd like to focus on teamwork, if you don't mind. I know you're focusing on projects that build originality and creativity, but I think learning to work with someone else is equally important."

Sam preens at the approval. "I think we can do this as teams of two, like withe vault assignment."

She pulls a notebook out of her messenger bag and draws a quick sketch. "I'd like a device on a timer, that's floating above the floor of the room. It'll be rigged to 'explode' after a certain amount of time."

"There's an instruction manual, but it's in a code. One person on the team should be given a rudimentary knowledge of the code ahead of time. The other will be in charge of 'disarming' the device according to the instructions."

"The tricky part, though, is that the device moves up and down at unpredictible intervals. If it touches the floor or the people who are working underneath it, everyone explodes. If you want bigger teams, the other people can be in charge of keeping the device off the floor without making physical contact."

((ooc: Okay, the same mindset thing's a little odd...but in a good way?))

"I'm going to need a big bottle of baby powder (unscented, because I'm allergic to the scented stuff) and a fan." She gives Mac a little smile and a shrug. "It's not high tech, but it works."

When the items appear, she shoots the baby powder into the air in front of the fan, and the white cloud exposes the lasers. After a moment, and another puff of powder, she wiggles her way through to the other side, covered in white powder. "Didn't think about that," she mutters as she pick up a twinkie.

Anders scratches his head, a little bit disappointed that Rogue and Illyana had already pretty much used the method he’d come up with. (Low-concept, admittedly, but his recent obsession with baseball had led him to end up focused entirely on chalk dust for this project.)

“I’m gonna need chalk dust, a lot of it, and one of those baseball pitching machines where you feed the ball in behind the wheel.”

Anders feeds the chalk dust into the back of the pitching machine. He doesn’t bother to think out proportions or anything like that.

It’s definitely not pretty.

He almost makes it, but trips the last laser because he’s coughing so hard.

"Way too well. Next time," Anders coughs, "I use that to get away from someone, not help me get through lasers."

John gives the MulletMaster a list of ingredients from here (http://www.totse.com/en/bad_ideas/ka_fucking_boom/theultim.html)

"If this was all we needed them for, I could just get by with a spray bottle."

"So we didn't need to make our own?" He fiddles with a pocket.

"I'll take the squirt bottle. It's easier than trying to clear out the smoke."

John readies the squirt bottle, and makes his way through the hallway, ducking and stepping the beams.

He does manage to slip a bit on some water when he emerges out the end.

"Ah, the sweet taste of victory."

*DEATH sprays the contents of the bottles in front of him, using it both locate the lasers and leave a nice, refreshing scent on his robes.*

Surveying the hallway, Krycek smirked a little. "I need a bag of flour and a Megazooka (http://www.thinkgeek.com/cubegoodies/toys/729d/)."

When the items appeared, he broke open the bag and used the air-blaster to shoot flour down the hallway, the lasers shining dimly through the white powder. The hall resembled a winter wonderland when he was through and he maneuvered through the laser field carefully, ending up on the other side to claim a package of HoHos. "Haven't had these in a while," he said, grinning.
