Boom-De-Yada Science - Danger Shop, Wednesday, Period 1 [Week 3]

The Doctor didn't say hello today. Very rude of him. Instead, he launched into a lecture about why the sky was blue, the different types of clouds and the layers of Earth's atmosphere.

The important part was that while this was going on, they were all standing on a vast field of clouds. Yes, up in the sky. "Now," he said once he talked non-stop without allowing interruptions (anyone who tried got a single finger - no, not that one - pointed at them to shush them while he prattled on about the topic at hand), "you might notice we're standing on clouds. They're not normally solid, so don't try this at home. The Danger Shop has been reprogrammed so that the clouds are solid and bouncy." He bounced up and down to demonstrate. It was like a gigantic outdoor trampoline only fluffy and soft. "You won't fall through. Try not to run into the invisible walls." They were still there, after all, even though they couldn't be seen.

And with that, he started bouncing around.

Gawking, for once, took precedence over actually listening.

She'd feel bad about that once she got over the whole... standing on clouds thing. Yes.

Lindsay really wasn't listening to the lecture. She wasn't sure how she was expected to while standing on clouds.

This perspective wasn't strange at all to Raven, since she often flew as her Soul-Self, but she rarely went this high.

Clark was staring and maybe saying "Um," with a freaked out look on his face while he tried to remember that this wasn't real and there was no need to be afraid of heights while in the Danger Shop.

It wasn't that Cara made a habit of not paying attention to lectures, really, but certain facial expressions were going to catch her notice more than others and 'freaked out' was one of them. "Clark?"

He turned her direction, still looking uncomfortable with the solidity of the ground here. Somehow it didn't matter that he wouldn't be injured if he fell; it was a purely mental fear. "Hey Cara," Clark gulped, trying to push his discomfort back behind a small smile.

And you didn't need to be a Confessor to read that kind of body-language. "Is something wrong?" Cara's voice dropped automatically to a softer tone, the kind you'd use on a skittish horse.

"Oh you know," Clark shuffled on his feet a bit, remembering that the cloud was solid and being up high was fine. Really. "Just hanging out in a cloud miles above the ground."
wrongkindofsith: (Who's the prettiest Lord Rahl then?)

"Not a fan of heights?" In a gesture that looked far more casual and absent than it actually was, Cara reached up to brush his shoulder.

"Not really," Clark said, finding that if he focused on the fact that Cara seemed to be trying to console him it actually felt better. "They're just kinda...high."
wrongkindofsith: (And I will love you and pet you...)

Cara would deny she was doing any such thing if anyone were to suggest it, regardless of the fact those denials would be blatant lies. "I doubt we're more than a foot off the floor," she pointed out, lightly stroking a thumb along the side of his neck. "Less probably"

There really was no avoiding a little smile at that. "And it is unnaturally bouncy," Clark remarked, trying to go along with Cara and ignore his stupidity.
wrongkindofsith: (How you doin?)

Cara refrained from making a smart reply about a lack of properly supportive undergarments because there were distractions, and then there were unwelcome distractions, and she knew exactly where she wanted to keep his focus.

Instead she gave him a small smile of her own. "Less damp too."

Clark didn't get it at first and then he realized and smiled. "Right, with all the water! It'd be cool if it rained."
wrongkindofsith: (Her face doesn't break when she smiles)

"It'd certainly make for an interesting view." She was referring to the landscape. Mostly. Largely. Partly.

Look, it wasn't her fault the clothes in this place were made from fabric that went like that when it got wet.

"Guess it wouldn't bother you much," Clark said, realizing the leather had that advantage. Almost sad, actually.

Mord'Sith leathers mightn't have turned transparent, but they could get uncomfortably clingy. "Ever actually tried to peel someone out of wet leathers? Especially when you're dealing with some idiot who cinched her corset too tight to begin with."

She hadn't actually meant to say that last part out loud.

...it was like there was never any height issue at all! Amazing how that worked when words like 'peel' and 'corset' came into play. "No, that...would be a new experience for me!"

Diana tuned most of the lecture out. It helped that she had already heard a good chunk of it on the Discover Channel. She was just going to stare at the clouds.

Claudia knew all this already. So she was crouching down to see how manipulable the Danger Shop's clouds were.

Could one make a cloud-man? These were important questions.

Peter stood there for a moment, testing the bounciness of the clouds.

Eventually, he just flopped backwards, because he could.

Zatanna was half trying to listen, half trying to jump as high as she could. Had she possessed another half, it would have been devoted not tot fall on her classmates.

...Nah, they were going to be fine.

While the Doctor was all "yada, yada, science", Kurt was poking at the clouds with his foot, trying to figure out just how solid they were. He had already started bouncing by the end of the lecture.

Spock already knew all of this information. He did have to admit that the virtual reality created here was impressive, if inobedient to the laws of physics.
