Student Council Meeting [October 24, 2005]

Phoebe enters the room and starts setting up her notes.

"Hey guys, we have a lot to cover and not a lot of time."

Elizabeth nods in agreement, trying not to yawn. Instead, she picks up her coffee.

After coming in late to the meeting, Marty sees Elizabeth looking a little beat.

"You okay, Weir?"

Elizabeth smiles at him. "Just a bit tired, thanks, Marty. Not sleeping too well, and all that."

Marty points at the coffee. "Drinking that this late? Probably not a good idea if you're trying to get some sleep."

"I'm not sure if I want to sleep," she mutters to herself, but forces a smile for Marty. "Yeah, but if I wasn't drinking it, I don't think I'd be awake right now," she says.

((OOC: I'm sorry, is Marty supposed to hear the muttering?))

[[ooc: He can if he wants to. Liz is barely functioning... she might be muttering louder than she thinks *g*]]

A look of concern crosses Marty's face. "Weir? Is something wrong?" he asks softly so no one else can hear.

Elizabeth sighs. "Nightmares," she replies, equally as softly.

Marty nods. "I know how that can be. I had detention with Dream and... well let's just say I didn't sleep for three days. Seriously Elizabeth, if you haven't been sleeping go to the clinic. Maybe they can give you something. Or better yet? Go to Dream."

((OOC: Don't know if you got my anonymous message because I forgot to log in. *Face_Palm*. Speaking of sleep, must get some. But If you want to slow play this I wouldn't mind. *Gives Puppy Dog Eyes*))

Elizabeth nods slowly. "I think I'm going to have to," she says. "I've tried a number of things, and they just don't seem to be working."

[[ooc: Not a problem. I needed sleep myself.]]

Marty nods sympathetically. "Do you want to talk about it all? I know I'm a perfect stranger to you but I'm willing to bend an ear."

"Well, I suppose you've not been living under a rock these past few days, so I've guess you've heard about the ethics assignment," Elizabeth says.

[[Liz sent her an email after talking to Parker in the clinic who suggested the same thing, so I'm sending her there during office hours today]]

Marty winces. "Yeah... the Master/Slave thing. I'm wondering how that lesson plan got past the administration. Who'd you end up with?"

"Janet... Janet Fraiser. But we're not doing it."

"So you're worried about how that will affect your grade in class? It seems to me that the refusal to participate in this little project is the ethical thing to do."

Elizabeth laughs, slightly harshly. "Oh, it's not my grade that's giving me nightmares," she says. "Let's just say that I've seen some examples of slavery, and it's those which are haunting my dreams."

Marty winces in sympathy. "And I'm guessing those images have nothing to do with the scenes from Gone With the Wind?" he says lightly.

Elizabeth half-smiles at him. "No, not really," she replies softly. "I've spent some time in Mali and along the Ivory Coast..." she sighs

"Really? I'd never guess that. How'd you end up there?"

Her cheeks flush slightly. "Oh, you know... volunteer work, and all that."

Marty's a little surprised. "Really? And you're only what? 17? Sounds like you've had an eventful life. Though that might be a requirement just to be admitted to this ~~nuthouse~~ school."

She grins wryly. "Not quite 17 yet. My dad was in politics... he always thought it was good for me to get involved in things.

And you're a fine one to talk about an eventful life."

Marty gives her a small smile. "Yeah... but it's not a life to be proud of."

"No, but you're putting it behind you now. Clean slate and all that," she says, smiling back at him.
