Library, Saturday, August 7

Henry never went back to his apartment Saturday night; the couch in his office was a perfectly decent place to sleep.

And, when he looked out the window and saw some of the things across the landscape, he was pretty sure he'd made the right choice. There were pterodactyls out there.

After making what he suspected would be the first of many pots of coffee, Henry set up the research tables with the books that seemed like they'd been most useful the day before, then settled down with some of the back library files about old invasions open in front of him. He wasn't sure if it'd teach him anything new, but it was something to do.

Anakin--not that he would admit it--needed a break from whatever was marauding outside. After checking his messages and hearing from Karla, he headed to the library.

He...kind of looked like he'd been fighting monsters for the better part of two days.

"Master Skywalker?" Anemone approached him with her sketch book and a roll of blueprints. "Do you have a moment to go over something with me, before I get Principal Winchester's hopes up?"

When in doubt, ask the teacher that you are rather sure knows everything ever, at least, that was Anemone's motto.

"Of course," Anakin said, nodding. "What do you have?"

She laid her drawing and the blueprint side-by-side. "If I'm looking at the right part of the machine, this is missing here," she said, pointing at the comparative sections. "I'm pretty sure that's the quantum balancer, which isn't in my version."

"That dark-haired girl," and here she nodded at Sara, "noticed the dimension stabilizer also appears to be gone. But I have no idea what's causing what, or how to build something like this."

Anakin's eyebrows drew together. "That's not great," he said finally as he looked carefully at the drawings. "I haven't been out in an hour--the junkyard might have disappeared entirely, or might not have anything close to what we'd need to rebuild."

Anemone wrinkled her nose in frustration. "I'd go out, but if we don't know if it's even there..." A shrug. "As much fun as ripping apart anything that looks at me funny is, I'm better off staying here."

Anakin nodded. "I suppose a really pointless question would be wondering where the parts went, huh? Because recovering them would be faster than making new ones."

"She thinks they went where the people went," Anemone replied. "It doesn't look like they were broken or pulled out of the machine, so it's as good a guess as any."

"And hoping on everyone ending up in one place and getting clunked in the head with spare parts," Anakin said a little dryly. "That would be convenient."

"And we all know that Fandom is never convenient," Anemone laughed. "That would make it all too easy."

"But at least we have some idea of why this is happening," Anakin said. "It's not an angry wizard locked up in Special Collections or pissy gremlins."

Pause.

"Unless they took the damn parts, in which case I'll kill them."
