Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

More tables and chairs had been set up further out on the lawn, where there weren't as many trees, and so there wasn't as much shade either. Still, it was bound to be quieter over here than closer to the main area.

[OCD is up! Have at it! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Midwest," Alex said, shrugging a shoulder. "Iowa, to be specific. They decided to kick my ass out after I stabbed some kid in the hand with a pencil last school I was in. It slipped. Oops."

It hadn't slipped.

Well, that was... blunt. Taking it as an exchange of information for information, Wes grinned. "I'm sure it was deserved," he offered.

"It was. The kid was a moron," Alex confirmed with a laugh. "I've mellowed though. I don't do much stabbing anymore so your hands are safe. I'm Alex."

"Wesley." He extended his hand, then made a show of yanking it back so as not to get stabbed. Laughing, he stuck his hand out for real.

"You're a nervous one, aren't you, Wesley?" Alex said, shaking the offered hand. "Gonna have to get over that quick or you might end up hiding in your closet. And then you'd have to come out of the closet and I'd laugh."

Wes turned about three shades of pink and tried to start a sentence maybe four or five different ways.

"Yes, I suppose I'll have to do something about that," he said at last. "I'm not accustomed to being around so many people, but I suspect I will eventually become more used to it."

There. That was calm enough.

"It'll help, I'm sure. You won't always make people think that you're this close to a fucking panic attack."

Alex had wondered if his head was going to explode earlier.

"The people here aren't so bad. You rooming with a girl? That'd be even better. If she's hot, that is."

Alex hadn't been that far off, since Wes basically was about to have a panic attack in his first few minutes at the picnic.

"Yes, I'm roomming with a girl named Parker," he said. "I suppose she could be considered hot? But she's... a bit unsettling."

"Unsettling how?" Alex asked curiously. "She scary?"

Not wanting to come across as the kind of rude person who'd speak disrespectfully about a roommate he'd just met, but suspecting that Alex was probably the kind of person who wouldn't care either way, Wes just said, "She asks questions that are rather alarming. I believe one of her particular concerns was whether or not I am a vending machine."

Alex laughed because, really, that was kind of a funny question. And Alex was almost certain that the question had a reason.

"What'd you say to that?" Alex had to ask. "You didn't like blabber incoherently, did you?"

"I'm afraid I did," he admitted. "But I eventually told her I'm not. Unless she meant a metaphorical vending machine, in which case I'm not sure what that would mean."

"Yeah, I'm not sure either," Alex said, shaking his head. "She stop asking weird questions after you told her you weren't a vending machine? Or was that just the first in a line of weird questions that had you near wetting your pants?"

"She asked a number of other questions," Wesley said awkwardly. He knew he was being mocked, but he wasn't sure if Alex wanted him to just go with it as some kind of hazing thing or to protest it and act like a man. Option A seemed like it would require vastly less energy, so he settled on that.
