Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

More tables and chairs had been set up further out on the lawn, where there weren't as many trees, and so there wasn't as much shade either. Still, it was bound to be quieter over here than closer to the main area.

[OCD is up! Have at it! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

As was he often did at these picnics, Robin brought his banjo. His current selection was Octopus's Garden. No particular reason why, he just liked the song.

Alex was still at the picnic, having gotten himself some food. He was back on the edges of the crowd, propped up against a tree where he could smoke and eat.

Alexander's nerves had settled to the point where he neither worried about there being so many people or that some mad magician or disapproving noble would come down and smite him for digging into the food. He finally got himself a plate, a modest portion of things he could easily recognize while only a little bit of the the things he didn't (he was feeling adventurous), and then went to find a nice spot to sit and eat.

He picked the shade underneath a tree. Because there was neither mad magician or disapproving noble to stop him.

Hannibal was still wandering around without a shirt, thankful for the warm day. He had a drink in one hand and was sipping from it while he mingled.

Kate the cat was somewhere in the middle of the crowd and Bod was letting her have her fun while he found a spot on the grass and sat down. He wasn't so much tired as he enjoyed watching the goings on from a spot outside the crowd.

Realizing the the crop of new boys was actually fairly small, it seemed, Ariel decided by this point that she could relax a little, laying out comfortably in a spot of sun on the grass, with a pair of shades, and just enjoying the view. Because oh yeah. How could you not?

Harper knew that there would be new kids around today, and many of them might need some fashion guidance. She would be happy to provide it and even dressed for the occasion, since her driver's ed outfit came complete with a road map. Besides, she would be sure to stand out from the crowd that way.

Don't ask. It really makes sense in her head.

Surprisingly, Lindsay was still at the picnic. She was even willing to mingle. Maybe.

Luke had officially decided he liked this place and celebrating with...more food.

Don't judge him, he'll work it off in the gym later.

"My," still trying to settle his nerves with actually talking to people, Alexander somehow thought it would help to speak with someone dressed like this. However, considering he had puffy sleeves, two scarves, and leggings, his own fashion choices seemed fairly on the same page. "What an intriguing hat, my lady."

It was a hot day, and Lion-o knew all about tradition. So, after getting something to eat and finding some shade under a tree, he took his shirt off.

"Thanks! And it works, too," said Harper, taking the crown of her hat, which had a working car horn sound effect. "You don't look so bad yourself! You know, leggings are really making a comeback these days."

"Oh!" Alexander hadn't expected his own attire to receive a compliment; he mostly wore what was recommended to him, but he did take a moment to look down, smooth out his tunic, and feel proud that he seemed to at least wear it well. "Thank you. But how do you get the hat to do that? Is it magic?"

"You know about magic?" asked Harper with a wide-eyed look. "I used a box that emits a sound when it's pressed. I can't do any sort of magic, but my best friend can. I just found out about it recently."

Hoshi was smiling as she walked around, but it was a bittersweet feeling to know that this was her last welcome picnic. She would be gone by the time the next one was held.

Alexander's eyes widened a little themselves. "Your best friend? Er, I mean." He cleared his throat a little. "I...unfortunately do know quite a bit about magic..."

And he quickly regretted bringing it up, so he rushed into necessary manners to hopefully sway the conversation elsewhere, all the while wondering if the lady's friend's name started with an M or an H.

"And, my apologies, I've forgotten to introduce myself. My name is Alexander. Who might you be, my lady?"

Jason had talked to a few people and prepped his little sibling as well as he could. Now, he had a plate full of food and was sitting down to play another round of "Spot the new people."

"It's good to meet you, Alexander. My name's Harper Finkle," she said, grinning. She could be easily distracted from talk about magic. "So, you must be one of the new kids. What do you think of Fandom so far?"

Re: More General Mingling [Summer 2010-2]

[identity profile] daventryprince.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 08:35 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh!" Alexander instantly went into trying to sound positive, to push past all of his nervousness. "It's lovely. A very nice place, so far. And there are so many people! The castle is beautiful, and everyone seems very friendly. Not to mention the weather, and the proximity to the ocean is very nice, too..."

Yeah, the nervousness wasn't really well hidden in all of that.

"Nothing bad has happened so far?" asked Harper, noticing the nervousness.

"Oh! No," Alexander shook his head, eager to remedy that impression. "As I said, everyone's been so kind and friendly! It's just..."

It was clear that he wasn't very good at hiding his nerves, so he might as well fess up to them. "I'm just a little apprehensive," he admitted, leaning in slightly and lowering his voice as if to keep from anyone overhearing. "I've never really been in a situation like this before. Never have I seen so many people in one place! Not even during the grandest of events back home!"

Harper gave him a reassuring smile. "You're obviously not from New York like me. I guess it can be a little scary at first, but you get used to it. And people are all pretty friendly around here, although I guess you get the occasional bad apple," she said. Her little sibling from the last term might fall into the latter category, though Harper hoped that he would eventually come around.

Katniss knew all too well that there were starving children who would kill for this kind of food, so while she was stuffed, she still had a full plate that she was considering smuggling to her dorm room.

In the mean time, she'd relaxed a bit. She was utterly baffled as to where she was and what this meant, but she was fairly sure no one was going to attack her, at least for now. So she found a spot to stretch out in the sun, and set to memorizing her surroundings.
