bigdamnprincipal: (i am having a picnic)

Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part I

The recent cold front had been a welcome weather pattern as far as Zoe was concerned, and she was very grateful for how things had turned out today - it was sunny and breezy, and just cool enough that no one would pass out from heat exhaustion. Hopefully.

Beneath the blue and gold streamers and balloons, tables had been set up with drinks and food, including an entire table of moddable different ice cream flavors. As always, there was a stack of nametags set down next two signs: one listing the Big Sibling/Little Sibling pairings, and one listing rooms and roommates for the new students.

[OCD is up! Have at it! This is part one of the picnic, specifically for meeting siblings, roommates, and teachers. The rest of the picnic is happening here and here, in an effort to keep browsers from breaking for as long as possible. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

"Who wants to know?" the taller, thinner one asked immediately. He sounded less belligerent and more as if he were wondering who he could point to instead.

At the same time, the shorter, pudgier one piped up, "That's us!"

They exchanged a glance before turning to look at Mitchell.

Mitchell was going to be nice, and he wasn't going to make fun of the new teachers this early on in the semester. Yes.

He stuck his hands in his pocket. "Good to know," he said, grinning a little bit. "I'm Mitchell - your teaching buddy?" The word 'buddy' sounded... a little foreign with his accent.

They exchanged another long glance before turning to Mitchell.

"That's very interesting," the short one said. "However, before we begin, we must ask you a question. Who would win in a fistfight: Lizzie Borden or Anne Frank?"

"Take you time," the other one added. "Weigh all the possibilities before answering."

Mitchell shot both of them a wary look (and a snort of slightly disbelieving laughter). "Lizzie Borden or Anne Frank," he echoed. "Well, Lizzie Borden had a hatchet, but Anne Frank was Dutch. The Dutch are fierce." A beat. "My money's on Anne. She seemed limber. Any more gems where that came from?"

"That was my answer," the taller one said smugly, his vocal resemblance to Ray Romano becoming that much more pronounced. "I told him never to underestimate the never-say-die scrappiness of a survivor."

"My money's still on Lizzie Borden," the shorter one said stubbornly, crossing his arms. "Dude, we're talking a large, healthy woman of questionable stability. Against a waif--however limber and fierce? Not even a contest."

The taller one waved that away. "Two to one, Anne wins. Glad to meet you, Mitchell. I'm 24. This is 21. We're members of...THE FLUTTERING HORDE!" They immediately moved to battle poses.

Dubious Mitchell was dubious. He crossed his arms. "A circus?" he guessed.

"Duh," 21 said, rolling his eyes behind his mask. "We're henchmen of the Monarch, the most feared archvillain in recent history."

Perhaps a bit of an overstatement, but they were loyal henchmen.

"And duly licensed members of the Guild of Calamitous Intent," 24 piped up.

"So a circus, then." Right... well. That was good to know. Mitchell ran a hand through his hair. "Right. Er-- If you have any questions, or you need to know where the best pubs are in the area, or anything else, that's where I come in. So... Shoot."

"Is there a local comic book store?" 21 asked, a bit eagerly.

24 shook his head. "What are the students like?" he asked, nudging 21 in the ribs. They were teachers now, gawd.

"Yeah, down at the Android's Dungeon," Mitchell said, not really flapped about that question in any possible way. "And the students are good. Creative. A little rebellious, but that's the fun, isn't it?"

They might get a slightly more nuanced answer if they'd asked anyone other than the vampire desperately in love with humanity, but...

"Well-meaning but naive scamps with an penchant for mischief and science?" 24 asked suspiciously. "With incredibly scary blond bodyguards with a lisence to kill?"

What? It was important to know?
