BWI Airport | Portalocity Lounge | Saturday Morning

Madison was not pleased when she pushed open the door to the lounge with the Fandom High sign on the door. Like it wasn't bad enough that she had to deal with being dead, now Ron decided to send her to some lame summer camp so Kairos and Nakita couldn't find her.

She slumped in one of the chairs near the door. There was a black suitcase decorated with stickers sitting next to her and a dirty yellow and black backpack at her feet. Her eyes were glued to the door in search of any danger that might be incoming - in the form of dark reapers or new classmates.

"Ohio," Quinn answered, always happy to talk about herself. The scariness receded a bit, though she still thought Wesley was a bit of an adorable dork. "About the same deal. My cheer coach thought this would be better for me academically than another two years in Lima, and I was ready to get out of there anyhow."

It might seem a little weird that Quinn's cheer coach was making private school recommendations ... but Sue Sylvester was a little weird.

"Understandable," Wesley replied, maybe a little too emphatically. "I was - tired of England myself."

Quinn looked more sympathetic. "Are you from a little town with nothing to do, too?" she asked.

"Quite," Wes agreed. "Or rather, too much of the same thing to do. I had certain responsibilities that I was... overly tied to. Is your town like that as well?"

Quinn smiled, thinking Wesley understood. "Half my life is responsibilities," she said. "If I'm not at cheer practice, I'm with the celibacy club. Of course, I enjoy being a leader, but it can be draining. What kind of activities are you involved in?"

She did not promise not to giggle if he said chess club.

Wesley figured the situation called for some additional explanations, so he explained, "My school was... rather atypical. Its purpose was to prepare pupils for field work against supernatural threats. As a result, much of my time was occupied with fencing practice and weapon training, plus the additional responsibilities that came with being a prefect."

He realized that might be a lot to take in. For now he probably should have said the prefect thing and left the rest alone. Something about this girl made him want to talk.

It was a lot to take in, yes, and Quinn's instinct was to dismiss it as a joke.

"Wow," Quinn observed. "You just sort of slid that supernatural thing in there like it totally made sense. That was pretty cool." She leaned forward. "Prefect is like class president, right?"

Re: Waiting

[identity profile] wesleynotponcy.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
"Precisely," Wes replied. "Except that prefects are selected by the faculty rather than elected by the students. You'll find that the British stay away from democratic processes whenever possible." And there it was, the snark he'd been fighting to contain all day.

As to the supernatural thing - "I was raised from birth to be aware of the threat of vampires and demons," he explained. Then, smugly, "I've actually faced a number of them myself."

"Really?" Quinn was trying to remember what you were supposed to do when faced with the obviously insane. Maintain eye contact, don't argue, and back away slowly, right?

She couldn't back away, so she settled for the eye contact and the not arguing. "That's a completely new one on me."

Realizing he must be making her uncomfortable, Wes started panicking a little. Had his father been wrong about Fandom students being aware of supernatural threats? "I - I mean," he stammered. "I thought - I was told that students at Fandom would be aware of these sorts of circumstances."

Well, that was that, he figured. No more talking to pretty girls, ever.

"Not really, no," Quinn said, trying to sound polite and not too freaked out even though she was. "But hey, if there really are vampires, I'm safe, right?"

She lifted the delicate gold cross she wore at her neck, as if displaying it. "This always works against them in movies."

"Y-yes, quite," Wes agreed, still caught off-balance from his most recent social stumble. How perfectly typical of his father not to mention that, oh, right, there were people at Fandom who didn't know about vampires!

"And besides," he added, trying to make her feel more comfortable, "I'm trained to protect you."

Quinn snorted. It was just a tiny snort, but it was definitely there. "I'll call you first when the vampires attack," she promised.

You know, expecting that would be never.

Yeah, Wes knew he was being sneered at. But he was used to that. It was kind of a side effect of being disliked by everyone at his school.

He decided it'd be best to change the subject to avoid future panic attacks. "So, cheerleading," he said, awkwardly. "My old school didn't have a cheerleading team, or in fact any sports at all. Did you enjoy it?"

Re: Waiting

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2010-07-03 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
And Quinn sneered at everybody, so Wesley shouldn't feel too bad about it.

"I loved it," she answered. "People don't know about all the training that goes into it. It's like gymnastics times dancing, only people want to watch you. And the skirts are awesome."

"They certainly are," Wes agreed, then hastily slapped a hand over his mouth. It didn't cross his mind that most cheerleaders are aware that guys find them attractive.

"Well, yeah, that's kind of the point," Quinn said. "It's okay. It's this whole look but don't touch thing."

"Smart marketing," he mused.

"Thank you." And if Quinn sounded a bit like she thought she'd personally invented the cheerleading uniform, well, that was Quinn for you.

Re: Waiting

[identity profile] wesleynotponcy.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
Wes didn't notice. The way he was looking at her, you'd think she'd invented the cheerleading uniform and everything else attractive in the world.

Re: Waiting

[identity profile] chief-cheerio.livejournal.com 2010-07-04 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
Quinn didn't mind that look on a boy's face, at all, ever. She smiled at him and cast her eyes down, trying to seem demure.

Crazy Wesley was her first ally. That was worth something.

[ooc: Hee! Crazy Wesley. Okay, I think this thread has probly run its course, but this was fun! We should definitely try it again. Wesley's got a cru-ush... :)]
