Magic of Baking: Week 7, Period 3

Alysha might have been looking more than a little bit distracted during this, the final meeting of their class. The tug in her heart that led back to her family was stronger than ever, and she couldn't quite concentrate on anything but the urge to call Charlie and have her take her home.

When Alysha found out which auntie had caused this, she was going to be very displeased.

"Last class today!" she said once everyone was assembled in the Home Ec room. "Thank you all for being a fun one, and I hope you've learned a little of use." Even if it was just the difference between sugar and salt... "Today we're working on making an Australian treat that's kinda awesome. The Pavlova. It's a little bit finicky so I'd advise you guys pair up to do this and double check your partner." She was rather hoping Karla and Rilla didn't pair up. That sounded like it would end badly.

"So, let's give it a try. And before you leave, pick up a copy of the recipe book I made up. It has all the receipes we made in class along with a moddable assortment of other ones to check out."

Cassidy thought this recipe looked pretty wonderful so she was being very careful about gathering up what she would need. She was also looking around for a partner as she did so.

Sookie hadn't ever even heard of a pavlova, so she was actually kind of excited to make it -- even if, as she looked over the recipe, she was a little unsure about her own ability to handle it.

"It doesn't sound very Australian," he remarked. "Want help? I'm good at following orders."

Actually, he wasn't at all.

"Are you?" she asked, smiling a little at that because yeah, not so much with the believing that. "I'd love help. I'm not all vampirey and offensive still, am I?" Since the glowiness and shiny hair had basically worn off, she figured her vampire je ne sais quoi was probably gone, too. But hey, didn't hurt to ask."

Cara looked around for a partner, as having someone to do the work read the recipe without difficulty would be useful. She just hoped this Australian 'treat' didn't involve insects of any description.

Harper was already off to a rough start. She'd already gone through half a dozen eggs without successfully separating the egg whites from the yolks. She could use all the help she could get.

"Sookie?" A dripping Karla stood in front of her, looking decidedly sheepish. "We kind of failed the assignment. Cassidy's going to clean up while I run and shower all this egg off me."

After Karla had left to go take a shower, a still very confused Cassidy came up to Sookie.

"So, if I make the dessert and turn it in for both of us, Karla doesn't need to know that I did it, right?"

Yes, Cassidy was covered in egg and sugar, too.

It was a bemused Cassidy that approached Alysha.

"Uhm, Lady Alysha? I'm sorry to bother you, but Karla and I are in need of more eggs."

From their station came a muffled curse as the egg in Karla's hand apparently blew up.

"I'm okay!" she called.

Alysha couldn't help looking amused as well as she grabbed more eggs for Cassidy. "...you are a brave, brave person," she said, shaking her head.
