"We have a lot of interpersonal conflicts at this school," she says, beginning to answer Rory's question. "I'd prefer to help resolve those conflicts before they escalate or turn into permanent grudges."
"I can't name names," says Janet. "But two of my friends were fighting. By the time I'd talked to one of them, there'd already been violence. I helped him to understand the other person's point of view." She grins. "They made up later, based on the fact that the first friend had a clearer understanding of why the other friend had been hurt."
Rory nods, making a note. "And, finally, 'cause I'm required to ask - are you in good standing in all your classes, and do you have any personal problems with anyone on campus?"
"Well, I didn't go to Classics today, but I'll either have the absence excused or make up the work when I talk to Professor Dream in office hours Monday." Janet stops a minute to think. "I can't think of anyone I've got personal problems with. People who have problems with me may be another story, but if they have a problem with me, no one's mentioned it to me."
Rory nods, smiling. "I have to ask so that in case there is someone, we can prevent you having to mediate a situation involving them. And by the way, you've got it," she adds with a grin. "We'll have a meeting sometime this week - probably Tuesday, I think - and I'll put you in touch with Marty Blank. He's going to give you the rundown on what to expect, security-wise. Any questions?"
Janet smiled. "Great!" she said. "If a situation comes up with someone, I'll let you know. Just have Marty give me a call, or come find me in the library. I spend a lot of time here."
She thought for a minute. "No questions right now. Probably some at the meeting. Thanks!"
OOC: Tuesday I'm offline from around 6:00 - 8:30 CST or so, FYI
Rory nods. "I'll email you with details on where and when we're meeting, et cetera."
[ooc: No worries - it won't be a permanent arangement. We just needed to have a meeting ASAP this week, and between Monday being StuCo meetings and Wednesday being Chaucer's class...Tuesday seemed obvious. But I embrace slowtime in instances like this. :)]

She clears her throat. "Anyway, Interviewy stuff. So...why do you want to be a peer mediator?"
