Self Defense and Kickassery for Dummies; Thursday Fifth Period [5th. Class]
Danger Shop, Fifth Period. The dojo was back.
Faith wasn't getting into any fight with muscular guys that day. It had been fun, but don't push it. She looked pretty serious and professional for once, and maybe a little smug- she was always a little smug, but this time there was something else going on. But, until the class started, she just stood there, hands on her hips as she watched the students arrive one by one. Or two by two, or three by three, you get the point. Each and everyone got their respective glance, but besides that, silence. It was a funny excercise that, imposing silence on the "classroom" until she decided to start; when you don't talk, you end up thinking about the stuff you try to cover with noise, whether you like it or not. It also built character, maybe. Probably.
But hey, it was time for classes.
"Four classes", started as she walked around the group, hands still on her hips. "When I started this thing, I had serious doubts about going anywhere, honest. Yet in some little time I think the results have been pretty damn good." And if not, she had seen everyone giving their best to take part of every class, every excercise, every kata and so on. "I'm sort of proud", added a moment later, half grin showing as she resumed her position in front of the class. "While I don't expect you guys to go out there and save the world, I'm pretty damn sure you now can stand on your own, or at least have the guts to know when to run." She didn't like the idea, but she wasn't about to lie them and tell them they were awesome fighters now; the truth was pretty okay though.
"Today we'll see Kumite. Kumite means sparring, and is one of the three main sections of karate training, along with kata and kihon, which we have already revised. Kumite is the part of karate in which you train against an adversary, using the techniques learned from the kihon and kata. In our case, we also get the upper hand from already having seen jiu jitsu and judo; if you have gone through them every week you will find yourselves to be highly resourceful in a violent encounter, even when your opponent is clearly stronger. Kumite can be used to develop a particular technique or a skill, such as effectively judging and adjusting your distance from your opponent, or it can be done in competition; this is what most people think when they hear of Karate; the tournaments, the fights, when it's only but a piece of something way bigger." But they weren't in some sassy class, so Faith cut it there.
"So today we'll be going over the things we've seen so far, and apply Kumite. We are going to do some sparring, or, to put it better, you are going to spar with me again." She felt it was time to get sore again, figures. "Well then, let's get this party started."
[Waaaaaaaaait for the OCD it's ooooooon]

Re: One on one with Faith
"The usual. Little weird here, some crazy there, bits of boring in between." Wasn't witty banter mid-fight the kind of thing people like them were supposed to do? Might as well practice that too. Damn, Faith was quick. Unsurprising, really, it came with the Slayer package, but knowing it was one thing. Experiencing it in the form of a block she'd barely seen coming was one hell of another thing.
"So overall, can't really comp--"
Kennedy took the kick with a sharp hiss of breath and twisted with the impact, in towards Faith, her opposite elbow up and out and aimed for a chin-level hit.
Re: One on one with Faith
Now, when someone gets kicked, they usually back off, freeze, or fall on the stop. They don't keep coming at you. For a second, Faith forgot who she was dealing with. It was no sucker punch, but Faith got her world nicely blurred for a fraction of a second before she managed to lower her leg again, preventing a fall to the mats early in the sparring. "And the girl? Uh, I mean, the other one, you get the point", asked as she used the short distance to attempt a punch on the girl's face...but her world maybe was a liiiiittle too blurry just yet, and didn't make much of an effort to get an advantage.
Whatever, she knew she was getting hit, and if made Kennedy fell progress...
Re: One on one with Faith
"Patrol? Been doing that. It's pretty boring, most nights." Weird costume-nerd kid changed that up a bit, maybe, but not the kind of action she was hoping for.
Though the little mental dance of joy she was doing at landing a hit of her own? Not doing much for her focus, and the punch connected enough to rattle her teeth but good, so she staggered back, shaking her head like that'd make the ringing in her ears go away.
She had to blink for a moment before getting her hands back up into guard position. "Point gotten, and she's... really, really great." Which was not a specific answer at all, but in her defense she'd just taken a solid hit.
Re: One on one with Faith
"A Slayer learns to cherish the calm patrol nights...well, after a couple of months of vampire hunting with no time to rest, that is." But calm night walks might help her think over...stuff.
Alright, she wasn't expecting that. "Geez, girl. Everything on it's place there? Last thing I need is a broken TA." There would be self blaming for not being more careful later. "Wanna take five?"
Re: One on one with Faith
She really needed a second or two, but, trying to prove her point, she came in swinging again with both fists. So her aim was probably a little off right now; details.
Re: One on one with Faith
Blindly attacking her? Avoiding the fists was easy, and Faith finished her move with a swift kick on Kennedy's knees, forcing her down as she applied a simple, yet effective lock on one of her arms and head. "I've been wondering...when we are here, how does the time of...home moves?" It wouldn't be nice to go MIA from my duties back there.
Re: One on one with Faith
"Seems to--" Oh, ow. The lock was definitely effective, but Kennedy tried to get out of it anyway; success wasn't happening. "Moves normally." Well, it seemed to for her and Tara, so she kind of assumed that was the case for anyone from their world.
Re: One on one with Faith
"Huh, cool. Ready to give up?" And just to tease her a little more, Faith allowed her grip to go a little softer. Bad idea there, but she wanted to see her stubborn TA launch some more kicks.
Re: One on one with Faith
"Bite me," Kennedy retorted spiritedly, reaching up with her free arm to try and wrench Faith's arm loose of her head as soon as she felt the hold loosen. "Me and giving up don't live in the same universe."
As she reached up, she tensed and threw herself backwards, kicking up hard with one foot at Faith's shoulder.
Re: One on one with Faith
"Huh, very well then, seems like you need your daily dose of I Told You So."
Re: One on one with Faith
"Aw, come on," she replied, rolling to her feet and smirking in that dangerously overconfident way that came from successfully landing a hit on a freaking Slayer. "I get enough of that from my Watcher as it is." And look how much good that did.
Re: One on one with Faith
"Let's leave one thing for the record." Faith remarked as she cut the distance between her and Kennedy, getting into the same position before starting to work on Kennedy's sides. One hit to the right, one hit to the left, Right left right left right left, let the girl cover all she could, Faith wasn't precisely putting the speed needed to be unfair, but once the opening appeared, she put a single, precise punch where she had earlier kicked, and then brought the Potential back to the mats.
The lock was a little too tight this time. Leaning so her lips were next to Kennedy's ears, she smiled. "I Told ya."
Re: One on one with Faith
And pinned again.
Damn.
She was so going to be sore later, damn the timing.
"Point made," she grunted, sounding as much pleased as chagrined. "Uh, Faith? Can you let me up now?"
Or she could just lie here for a while. Ow.
Re: One on one with Faith
And she let her go.
Standing up, Faith helped Kennedy. "Yeah, sorry about that. Sometimes we need a firm hand- err, choke hold to make a point." Sometimes, and some others they needed to be knocked out without hesitation.
Re: One on one with Faith
Constance was probably right about that.

Re: One on one with Faith
Re: One on one with Faith
Giving her a pat in the back, Faith wished she could go all in on her someday. "Five by five darlin'"
Re: One on one with Faith
"Takes more than that to break me. We're cool."
