Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2010, Saturday Early Evening

The sun had just finished setting as guests started to be let onto the lawn. There were chairs set up for friends and family, separated by an aisle that led to another set of chairs set closer to the stage for the soon-to-be-graduates. The air was still pleasantly warm, and the sky was still almost bright, although extra lights had been set up to make sure everyone could see the festivities. Having learned from previous years, there were no garish decorations or potential weapons in sight - just a simple, tasteful setup for the Class of 2010.

Rose darted a quick look to where she could see Lissa and Dimitri in the stands. If there was a problem, Dimitri was there to protect Lissa, and all would be well.

She tossed her hair back over her shoulder. "Like that's ever in doubt."

"The others just didn't stand a chance," Jo agreed, then since there was no time like the present. "I have got a bit of problem I was hoping you could help me with, though."

Rose looked over at Jo questioningly, expecting something like lip gloss or something more personal. "I didn't bring a bag with me. Just lip gloss in my pocket. What do you need?"

"Oh, it's not urgent." At least not for a value of urgent that included right now. "Just thought I should take the opportunity to ask before things get crazy."

"Okaaay," she said, drawing it out and not entirely sure what had to be talked about right this minute. "What's up?"

"You talked with Ed at prom," Jo said. "And now he's kinda freaked out." Which wasn't exactly, or entirely, Rose's fault, but that wasn't going to stop Jo right now.

"It was the dress," Rose snarked, an easy smile coming. "It was pretty fantastic."

Mean, just mean.

Jo raised an eyebrow, but there was a hint of a smirk on her face. "You told him I expected him to put out."

And Rose was cracking up. Give her a second, that was funny.

"Pretty sure I didn't say that or he'd've dropped dead of a heart attack right there on the dance floor."

Jo considered that a moment. "True. But you definitely implied it."

"So what if I did?" she asked. "I didn't tell him to sleep with me."

"He avoided me for two weeks afterwards!" As if Jo hadn't been doing avoiding of her own, or Alan hadn't had something to do with it.

Rose rolled her eyes. "Yeah, I'm sure that's a hundred percent my fault," she snarked. "Whatever, Jo, get over it."

"Maybe not, but you helped make the bed, you can lie in it with us."

...

"That was meant to sound less like a come on."

"I was gonna say I'm not into threesomes," Rose said dryly. Well, if you'd caught her nine months ago, she might've tried it. Not with Edmund though.

She looked over at Jo as they made it to their seats. "I have an idea. You want my help, maybe you stop trying to accuse me of whatever you think you are in hopes that I'll feel bad and agree. Cause it's not going to work, and I'm just going to get pissed off at you."

"I wasn't accusing you of anything." Yes, you were, Jo. "Just pointing out that you exactly didn't help matters, and I don't want the closest I come to getting laid this summer being having that alternate version of Mr Bond pass out mid-makeout."

Rose winced, holding her hand up. "God, ew, I don't want to know about that." Seriously, God, no. "Fine, fine, I'll stop teasing him about girls. No worries."

There were plenty of other things she could taunt Edmund about.

"Thanks," Jo said. "And I didn't know it was him at the time." She felt it very important to point that out.

"God, still, teacher," Rose protested. It was incredibly hypocritical, yes, but the difference between a 24 year old and - however old Mr. Bond was loomed large in her head. "Now there's a picture in my head."

"He was tiny!" Jo protested. "And not blonde! Still British though."

"Have a bit of a thing for the British guys, huh?" Rose asked, unable not to snark that.

"Maybe a little," Jo admitted. "He was also acting real dorky."

The dorkiness was her real weakness.

That was - Rose didn't even have an answer to that. It was obvious they'd never be competing for the same guys, yeah.

"Well. As long as he was acting dorky."

"Real dorky."
