Fandom High Graduation Ceremony, Class of 2010, Saturday Early Evening

The sun had just finished setting as guests started to be let onto the lawn. There were chairs set up for friends and family, separated by an aisle that led to another set of chairs set closer to the stage for the soon-to-be-graduates. The air was still pleasantly warm, and the sky was still almost bright, although extra lights had been set up to make sure everyone could see the festivities. Having learned from previous years, there were no garish decorations or potential weapons in sight - just a simple, tasteful setup for the Class of 2010.

Sam had had plenty of time to prepare for this speech, but he still looked a little nervous as he walked onto the stage.

"When I first came to Fandom, it was supposed to be a temporary stay," he said. "My brother and I were just going to crash here for the summer until our dad finished a job, and then we'd be on our way again. Well, that was four years ago, and in all the time I've been here, I've heard that same story time and time again. We hear it from students, from our teachers, from the folks who live in town - people think they're just going to pass through, and they don't. And I don't think it's because the beach is pretty, or because sometimes when things get weird it's kind of entertaining. I think it's because of the people. It's because for so many of us, this is one of the first places we ever found where we truly belonged, where we were accepted for who we are, no matter what. I know how dorky that sounds, and I can feel some of you rolling your eyes at me," he said, laughing. "But it's true."

He got quiet for a moment, and tucked his notes into his pocket, deciding to just wing it from here. "When I wrote my little thing about why I wanted to be valedictorian, I said this place had given me literally everything good in my life, and that wasn't an exaggeration. I think maybe that's why people stay here too. No matter what this place has thrown at us, we've all come out on the other side better for being here, whether it's because of the skills we've learned or the friends we've made. We're all better, more awesome people now, and I don't know if we'd be as lucky if we were anywhere else. It's been an honor to serve as your Student Council president, it's an honor to be your valedictorian, and it's just been an honor to get to know you guys. If you're going home right away, I hope things work out for you, and that you get to do what you want to do with your lives. If you're sticking around, we've only got one summer left, so let's make it a good one. Thank you."

Gwen and Ianto found a pair of seats with a good view of the stage, Gwen with one ear to her mobile.

"Rhys says Jack hasn't shown up at our place, but he'll try and drop by the Hub later in case he's there," she told Ianto. "And to get lots of pictures."

The Procession! - Arthur Pendragon & Morgana

You could say what you wanted about Arthur's willingness to be here, but he gave good Ceremony. With a regal look on his face and a chivalrous extended arm for his stepsister, he was succeeding rather well at his bid to make the toga look more than dignified.

Look, in comparison to Camelot state dinners, in terms of making an appearance, this was a cakewalk.

Ianto was already setting up a camera. "Tell him I'll get sound as well," he said.

After handwavily catching up with their daughter yesterday Samantha and Greskrendtregk made their way to their seats, making sure that they had seats that would let them have a good view of what was going on.

"He says thanks," Gwen replied. "And he loves you. Me. Both of us. Jack's a bad influence on the man."

Ash had a camcorder and sign reading "Congratulations on kicking high school's ass, Jo!".

In deference to the solemnity of the event his mullet was freshly trimmed and his vest was buttoned up.

The Procession! - Marco Conrad and Gwen Cooper

Fiddling with her gown one final time, Gwen offered her arm out to Marco.

She was going to do this, and she was going to do this with style.

The Procession! - Joanna Harvelle and Rosemarie Hathaway

Rose hadn't expected to be excited at this. She was totally aware she hadn't passed her trials or Field Experience yet, and until she had that promise mark and was assigned to Lissa, her 'graduation' wasn't going to be complete.

But still, being here with unexpected friends from the past year as well as a few from home, it was pretty damn cool, and she was grinning a lot as she winked at Jo, offering her her arm.

It would be a lie to say Angela didn't have some mixed emotions about today, but she was excited enough about graduation itself for all that to have coalesced back into her regular cheerful demeanor.

She was not going to let thoughts of leaving here, or her dad missing this to work, or anything else even remotely negative, get into her mind. Nothing was going to get in the way of enjoying this.

Jo grinned back, taking the offered arm. "Wonder what's going to go wrong this year," she said in a low voice.

"I'd be surprised but..." Rose replied, rolling her eyes. "Fuck it, let's get it over with and find out."

Graduation might be a load of showy sentimental crap, but Effy did know some people graduating. She'd probably go so far as to call them friends. So she was here, sitting next to the aisle and flicking her lighter on and off while she waited for all this to get started.

Liz couldn't believe that she was actually about to graduate. Three years ago she would have thought that it would never happen but now that she was moments away from getting her diploma she was slightly nervous but she was also excited at the same time.

Professor Trevor Bruttenholm took his seat as he waited for the ceremony to start, he was definitely proud of Liz and that her powers hadn't stopped her from graduating high school.
