Children, children everywhere.

Again. Only, this time it seemed to be other residents of the island, instead of their possible future offspring, which somehow made Jono quite thrilled that it hadn't touched him. The last thing he needed was to be five years old again. He hadn't been much of a fan of it the first time around.

That said, it was entirely possible that he was going to entertain himself today by pulling out the children's books once again.

... And possibly flipping through a few that he vaguely remembered from his own childhood. Shut up.

A wee black-haired girl with a red gem stuck to her forehead -- no doubt giving away her identity immediately -- silently appeared in the library. "Hello," she said, peering up at Jono.

Jono blinked. And then blinked some more.

Well, at least she was cute when she was tiny.

//Hullo, gel,// he replied, reaching up and scratching the back of his head awkwardly. //Can I help yer with anything, Raven?//

"I need a book," Raven said, Quite Solemnly. "This library does not work like the Library of Azarath. I cannot think of what book I want and find it."

//I can imagine how that would be a bit on the inconvenient side,// Jono allowed, taking a moment to look amused at the girl's predicament.

You had to take amusement where you could find it, when you were Jono.

//What book would that be, luv?//

"A book on human culture and slang," Raven said. "Someone used words I do not understand." She glanced over at the shelves. "And if it is up high I will need assistance retrieving it."

Jono considered this situation for a moment, and then he gave his shoulders a shrug and set down the book that he was reading. The one about the boy who ran away and became the king of the monsters.

No, he'd never wished he could do the same as a child, why?

//Follow me, then,// he replied, making his way down an aisle that looked somewhat promising. //Dare I ask what words they were usin', gel?//

Raven followed after Jono. "Fucking," she said. "And shit."

Those words should never come out of her mouth. It was wrong.

Jono stopped dead in his tracks and just gaped at her. As best as a boy with now lower jaw possibly could gape.

//Er...//

And now he was going to facepalm. It was an epic facepalm, indeed.

"I do not like to be ignorant," Raven said. "He would not tell me what the words meant, so I told him I would ask another or look in a book."

//There's a saying,// Jono hedged, //about ignorance being bliss, luv. Perhaps in this one circumstance, yer might want to take that to heart?//

Look, it was worth a shot.

"There is also a saying," Raven countered, "that knowledge is power."

//Bloody hell.//

She had him there, didn't she?

//Both words are more than a little rude, gel.//

And now he could hope and pray that she'd settle for that? Maybe?

"I apologize, I did not intend to offend you," Raven said. "I only said them because you asked me."

Sigh. A projected one. It echoed a little.

//I'm not offended,// he assured her. And then shrugged a little. //Th'first one is a way of referring to sex. The other is generally another word for cack.//

Well, it wasn't like she wouldn't know these things all over again when she turned back, right?

//Neither are words yer should be using on a regular basis.//

"Oh," Raven said, her eyes getting just a little wider. "Oh. I do not intend to use them, I only wished to know what they meant. They are indeed very rude."

//Quite.// Jono shrugged. //I wouldn't worry on it too much. Yer know better now, at least.//

And really, Jono had heard far, far worse. But from the mouths of babes and Raven, it had certainly been a shock at first.

Raven nodded. "I thank you for your assistance," she said. "You have been most helpful."

//I aim to please,// Jono replied. //If yer need anything else, luv, yer know where t'find me.//
