Children, children everywhere.

Again. Only, this time it seemed to be other residents of the island, instead of their possible future offspring, which somehow made Jono quite thrilled that it hadn't touched him. The last thing he needed was to be five years old again. He hadn't been much of a fan of it the first time around.

That said, it was entirely possible that he was going to entertain himself today by pulling out the children's books once again.

... And possibly flipping through a few that he vaguely remembered from his own childhood. Shut up.

A small boy -- all ears, eyes and energy from the looks of him -- came in and jabbed a finger at a computer near Jono. "Whassat?"

... look, it was 1970 last time he checked. He didn't know everything.

//It's a bloody annoying waste of time, mostly,// Jono replied, crossing his arms and raising an eyebrow at the boy, idly wondering who in the world he was. //But yer can play games on it, which makes it almost alright.//

Henry mashed a few random buttons, which didn't do much of anything. "Show me?" he requested. "I wanna play games."

... Henry, the word is please.

And now, Jono was officially out of his league on two counts. Children and computers, and he was mentally kicking himself for flapping his gob about games.

... More or less.

//It's not hard,// he reasoned, waving vaguely at the whole... computer... thing. //Yer move that thing around so th'arrow on th'screen moves, and then yer hit th'button on the picture until th'game starts.//

Mouse, monitor, icon, Jono.

Henry frowned, but, painstakingly, went to do what he was told. "When I'm big I'm going to have lots and lots of these," he decided.

He wasn't sure what it was, still, but it seemed to be cool and that was worth something.

//I'm certain you will, mate,// Jono agreed, watching the boy navigate the desktop as though he knew what in the world he was doing. //I imagine games'll be better once yer grow up, too.//

He had no idea, really.

//I could start up th'one I play sometimes. It's about farming.//

... And now Jono was using unpaid labour in order to harvest the milk from his cows on Facebook, yes.

"Maybe?" Henry sounded doubtful. "I never see these when I go to the future."

At age 7, Henry wasn't so great with secrecy, no. He also wasn't so great with paying attention to detail during time travel.

"Show me the farming, this isn't doing aaaaaaanything." Possibly because he was clicking the mouse in completely random locations.

//Go to th'future, hm?// Jono gave the boy a sideways look for a moment, and then leaned over to take the mouse so that he could open up the internet. //Yer time-travel often, do yer?//

"Sometimes," Henry said, more interested in the progress of the Internet-opening than in what he was saying. "My dad used to say I was makin' it up for attention" -- there was some sullenness in his voice at that -- "but then I went 'way right in front of him and now he just takes me to doctors all the time. I don't see why. I'm not sick, it's kind of interesting."

If Jono had the capacity to swallow a lump in his throat, that would be about the point where he'd be doing so.

//It's not a disease,// he said, after a moment. //Whatever yer father thinks it is, it's not, mate. You are whatever it is that you are. That doesn't make you sick. Just... different.//

His own eyes were very intently focused on the loading browser, as well. Probably for very different reasons.

//I don't think I ever did catch yer name.//

"The doctors keep giving me pills," Henry informed him, still sounding more annoyed by it than anything else. "I don't take them. They just make me sleep all the time."

He tilted his head up, trying to catch the kind eyes above the bandages. "I'm Henry! What's your name?"

Jono, whose kind eyes took a little bit of work to keep from looking too surprised at the revelation that he was loading his Farmville account for the librarian. Who was apparently also a mutant.

The things you learned...

"That's a nice name," Henry decided. "Henry is all boring."

He wrinkled his nose, oblivious to what was going through Jono's head. "Did you forget how the farm thing works, Mr. Jono?"

Because it took just about forever and a day to load all of his animals, which he hadn't bothered to sort in any way, shape, or form. He relinquished the mouse to the boy, and then stuck his hands in his pockets.

//Yer click on the ones with th'pink arrows over their heads, and then yer can plant crops, or whatever.//

"This is a weird game," Henry said, starting to drag things about in a not terribly efficient manner. "What do you have to do to win?"

Now that was a very good question if ever Jono had heard one.

//Don't let th'crops wither. And don't spend all of my money in one place.//

Yes. All of the fake money that he had made by clicking the pink arrows.

"It's not really money."

Thank you, overly literal child. Still, Henry set out to do as he was told.

//Well, it took work to earn,// Jono replied. //Harvesting raspberries every two hours is a pain in the bloody arse.//

It was not the fastest game known to man, no.

//If yer want to plant something, go ahead. I'll make certain that it doesn't go and wilt on yer, or anything.//

"You have to play this game every two hours?" Henry frowned. It was a weird game, and a little boring. "I think I'll go find something to read instead."

See, this was why Jono's farm had been neglected terribly for the past three months, now.

//Good plan, mate. If yer need any help findin' somethin' to read, let me know, okay?//

"Okay!" And Henry was off into the stacks like a shot. About halfway there, he remembered he was supposed to have manners, and added, "Thank you for showing me your farm game Mr. Jono," all in one breath.
