Flight Club [after classes]

It was a lot quieter outside the flight shed today than it had been last Monday, and whether that was a good thing or a bad one, Tahiri was withholding judgment on the question.

"Hey, everyone," she said, fiddling with her comlink just for the sake of something to do with her hands. "So . . . end of the semester already, huh? After last night, and with more finals to go for a lot of us, it seems like today should be a pretty easygoing day. Like Warren said a couple of weeks ago, this point in the semester ought to be for fun. Of course, some of us --" she gave Ben an amused but pointed look -- "have different ideas of what counts as fun. So we've got a few different choices for you today, to blow off some of that finals stress steam."

Ben's eyes twinkled back at her. "For the space option, we're going to let you get back into a snubfighter--but this time it's the A-Wing, which is a lot zippier than the X-Wing. I know this makes me a traitor to the family and stuff, but it's totally astral for flying through asteroid fields."

Ben had a strange sense of fun. "So that's what you'll be doing. Try not to get smushed."

Tahiri was so not surprised about his strange sense of fun. "And for your atmospheric option today, have an XCOR EZ-Rocket experimental plane, and see how fast you can get those twin rocket engines to go."

Ben smiled at everyone. "And there's pizza and ice cream, as well. Don't take it too near the sims."

"I've never mentioned it, so there's no reason you should have," Anakin said with a quick smile. "It's hardly a galactic holiday."

Leia looked skeptical. "Do they know how to take care of a baby?" she said.

"They're both highly trained Jedi Knights," Anakin said. "I'm sure they can handle one being who can't even walk yet."

"I didn't realize Jedi training included baby care," Leia said dryly. "Does that come before or after wielding a lightsaber?"

"Do you arm the babies in that case?" Leia asked. "It would make diaper changing a new adventure."

Anakin laughed. "No. In my time, you don't get a lightsaber until you're about ten."

See? Totally reasonable.

"I'm almost 17," Leia pointed out. "Do I get one?"

"No," Anakin said. "Those ten year olds had generally been training for ten years."

Leia shrugged. "I probably wouldn't have time to learn anyway," she said. "At least not back home. I'll be too busy with the senate and the rebellion."

"And the part where no one is alive to teach you?" Anakin replied with a tight smile.

"That's not true," Leia said. "There are still Jedi alive in my time."

Anakin blinked. "Really? I thought Vader was in charge of fixing that."

"Apparently he's not doing a very good job of stopping writers from retconning Jedi into existence," Leia said. "I met Master Kota on Kashyyyk, though he'd been blinded."

"I remember Master Kota," Anakin said, nodding and skipping happily past the part where he'd blinded the man. "He refused to work with clones during the war. He recruited his own group of volunteers instead."

"And he's still alive," Leia said. "He was helping Galen Marek. And Bail told me there are others still in hiding -- like General Kenobi."

A brief flash of regret flickered through Anakin's eyes. "How is he? Do you know?"

"Alive and safe is all I know," Leia said, shaking her head. "Bail didn't tell me much beyond that, except that he's taking care of something important."

Leia closed her eyes. "He's protecting my brother," she said after a short moment.

Which meant that he probably wouldn't ever be showing up in Fandom. Anakin felt relief and regret at the exact same moment over that.

Probably, but you never knew who might show up on Parents Weekend.

"Do I have to play dumb when I meet my Luke?" Leia said, opening her eyes. "In my timeline, I mean. How much will it change things if I told him he was my brother?"

"I'm not sure," Anakin said after a bit of a pause. "Maybe you can ask my Luke for his thoughts on it?"
