Build Your Own Philosophy, Monday, 4/19, Period 2

Tyler handed out crisp sheets of paper as the students got to class today. Finals were SRS BSNS, apparently.

"Welcome to your last week of class," he said. "This is a test. Pass it, and you get a good grade. Fail it, and you don't. No cheating, no talking, if you finish early you may leave or sit quietly and stare into space. I'm at my desk if you have questions. Thank you. Have a good summer."

And that was where it ended.

Oh crap. Oh crap. Oh crap oh crap... Everything Dinah learned in class threatened to completely evaporate, but she managed to pull it together and start to write.

1. I plan to teach the value of responsibility. Both by being there for my kids (if I have them) and showing them that their lives are better if they don't try to duck out of things.

2. Machiavelli recommends rulers adjust; and build floodwalls in expectation of floods. That is, anticipate where we'll have problems, and prepare for them.

3. Will & Ned's Awesome Expedition. Mostly because it was funny, but also because it made me like time travel. And it brought historical figures into a high school, and who can't relate to that? Learning doesn't have to be boring, and they proved that.

4. I think it can be a valuable tool in the right place and time. When you're trying to gain public support, and undermine someone who has something to lose by appearing tyrannical. And when you've got nothing to lose or no way to fight back at all.

(I'd still have some violence on stand-by, though.)

5. All is love skill change. Yeah. Nothing gets created that something else doesn't get destroyed. And vice versa. And you leave one place and wind up somewhere else that's cool. You change with the outside new stuff and you change it back. Change.

Extra Credit A: God can do whatever She likes. If She wants to make a rock that big, why not. Then change it into a marshmallow and eat it. It's all good. But why would She bother?

B. Whoever invented fishnets. Vampire Me. And kill her again.

Whew. Dinah double-checked for anything that sounded pretentious or stupid then turned in her paper with relief.
