Build Your Own Philosophy, Monday, 4/19, Period 2

Tyler handed out crisp sheets of paper as the students got to class today. Finals were SRS BSNS, apparently.

"Welcome to your last week of class," he said. "This is a test. Pass it, and you get a good grade. Fail it, and you don't. No cheating, no talking, if you finish early you may leave or sit quietly and stare into space. I'm at my desk if you have questions. Thank you. Have a good summer."

And that was where it ended.

Ino arched an eyebrow at Tyler-sensei's mood and fiddled with her very clean hair.

She was glad that Zack and her had decided a hotel room was the best solution to the fire drill. It made today a lot better having not had to spend hours hoping for hot water in the dorms.

Joan was kind of exhausted thanks to the fire drill but she was trying to keep her eyes open.

4. Do you think nonviolent resistance can be a valuable tool? Why or why not?

*insert TL;DR here*

Extra Credit B: If you could fight anyone, living or dead, who would you fight and why?

No one! I am a pacifist.

Oh crap. Oh crap. Oh crap oh crap... Everything Dinah learned in class threatened to completely evaporate, but she managed to pull it together and start to write.

1. I plan to teach the value of responsibility. Both by being there for my kids (if I have them) and showing them that their lives are better if they don't try to duck out of things.

2. Machiavelli recommends rulers adjust; and build floodwalls in expectation of floods. That is, anticipate where we'll have problems, and prepare for them.

3. Will & Ned's Awesome Expedition. Mostly because it was funny, but also because it made me like time travel. And it brought historical figures into a high school, and who can't relate to that? Learning doesn't have to be boring, and they proved that.

4. I think it can be a valuable tool in the right place and time. When you're trying to gain public support, and undermine someone who has something to lose by appearing tyrannical. And when you've got nothing to lose or no way to fight back at all.

(I'd still have some violence on stand-by, though.)

5. All is love skill change. Yeah. Nothing gets created that something else doesn't get destroyed. And vice versa. And you leave one place and wind up somewhere else that's cool. You change with the outside new stuff and you change it back. Change.

Extra Credit A: God can do whatever She likes. If She wants to make a rock that big, why not. Then change it into a marshmallow and eat it. It's all good. But why would She bother?

B. Whoever invented fishnets. Vampire Me. And kill her again.

Whew. Dinah double-checked for anything that sounded pretentious or stupid then turned in her paper with relief.

Extra Credit A

I'm sure He could and He probably would just to mess with me somehow.

Hayley answered the five exam questions with probably a surprising amount of knowledge. She actually had paid attention in class, for as flighty as she got. Her logical reasoning was still a little flawed, but that was par for her course.

As for the extra credit, well...

Extra Credit A: Could God make a rock so big He couldn't move it?

Only on Tuesdays.

Extra Credit B: If you could fight anyone, living or dead, who would you fight and why?

Bianca Steeplechase. For ruining my life.

She'd come a long way since the beginning of the year.

Marco scribbled short answers to the questions, trying to actually be serious.

4: Yes, to a point. There are some people who don't understand anything but strength and they see non-violence as weakness. At some point, non-violence runs out.

It was tradition, almost, for Ino to hand over something involving pastry and explosives at the end of a semester.

Ino was well aware of that.

"Have a present, Tyler-sensei." Inside the neatly wrapped box was a perfectly normal apple pie. No explosives or anything. That was part of the fun this time. She was relatively sure he'd guess it was going to blow up in his face and the fact that it wouldn't amused her.

... Ino was a brat, yes. But she was also a brat giving him non-explody pie today.
intraspective: (innocent really)

She gave him wide innocent eyes.

"What do you think, Tyler-sensei?"

"Your faith in me warms my heart," she said solemnly.

And taking a prudent step back.

There was absolutely nothing weird about the pie but she was not above acting as if it would explode.
intraspective: (blushing)

[personal profile] intraspective 2010-04-19 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
That was absolutely not a blush. Totally not.

(Except how it kinda was.)

"I am always nice," she said loftily, deciding to try and rise above her discomfort at the whole... nice thing. "My definition is just a little different than most peoples' nice."
intraspective: (listen to meeee)

Re: Talk to Tyler [4/18]

[personal profile] intraspective 2010-04-19 06:36 pm (UTC)(link)
She sniffed, fighting back a smile.

"But you didn't think it was normal person nice at first," Ino pointed out. "So I win." Win what, Ino? "And if you did, you'd probably be sick, so it's probably a bad idea to even consider that."

That was her way of saying 'you're welcome'.
intraspective: (smiling knowingly)

[personal profile] intraspective 2010-04-19 06:50 pm (UTC)(link)
"Everything's a contest," she said promptly. "And I won 'cause you weren't expecting normal and so I wasn't predictable."
intraspective: (badass babe)

Hmph. Ino raised her eyebrows at him. See? See? He was totally not riling her up.

Ino shrugged. "Don't know yet, honest. Sticking 'round the island, maybe a few missions back home if I'm lucky, dealin' with Zack and stuff. He's going to teach me how to use a sword."

Fear that. The very last thing she needed was another weapon to use.

"Maybe monster-huntin' back in his world if he feels up to goin' back and I feel... up to goin' with him."
intraspective: (smiling knowingly)

"Safe is what normal people do," she said, grinning a bit at that. "I'll do my best to stay alive, though."
