Ethics [Tuesday, March 23, 2nd period]

Today Anakin's desk was covered with droid babies in bassinets. Each baby had a tiny stuffed Ewok tucked next to it. Hush.

"Today we talk about lust," Anakin said, pulling his attention back from the wall he'd been staring at, trying to get a handle on a bad feeling he'd been having since stepping foot on the island yesterday. "Or rather, the unintended consequences that can happen when you take action without precautions."

He smiled. Evilly. Some of his lesson plans might have changed this semester, but he had been looking forward to the droid babies with something close to unholy glee this go-around. "Meet your little projects for the next week. They're heavy, they cry, and they will record everything you do with them. So if you stuff them into a closet for the duration, believe me, I'll know."

After all, he'd built all of them.

He reached for a list of paper. "I've paired you up together." His smile turned a little more evil. "And some of your babies are a little fussier than others."

Effy wrinkled her nose as she looked down at it. "Why don't you? Sure you're a natural." Or, at the very least, more natural than her. That wouldn't take much.

Then again, the look on his face said otherwise. "Bet it doesn't bite."

"If it bites, I'm suing," Griff promised, warily picking the baby up like he'd seen people do - straight up under the arms. "Okay. This isn't so bad."

Good luck suing Anakin. She wouldn't want to bet on that going far.

"It's not shutting up," Effy pointed out, oh so helpfully, reaching to pick up that stuffed Ewok to examine it briefly, before looking back at Griff and his uncomfortable hold on the screaming thing. "Hug it or something." Happy to advise, not happy to get involved, no.

"Right, like you'd know," Griff muttered, hugging the thing to his chest and, when he wasn't smothering it, stopping it from crying for a moment.

He should eat his words now.

He should, and Effy arched smug eyebrows at him seeing that response.

"See? Natural." Just because she didn't go for the cutesy maternal 'aww'ing of a lot of girls, didn't mean she couldn't make sensible suggestions. Not an idiot.

"Shouldn't you be doing this part?" Griff wondered, still holding the kid because it was quiet when he did, okay. "I mean, if I'm a teen dad, I oughtta run out now."

"We're bucking stereotypes here," she informed him. Mostly because she was not intending to get all mothery if she could help it. "Makes things more interesting."

"Hmm, if it's interesting, then I wouldn't really be the father, now would I?" Maybe he could pass the thing off on Karev somehow.

Yeah, good luck on that count. Alex was more likely to punch him than babysit their droid baby.

"So the kid's all yours," Griff said, holding it out to her and waiting for it to start the wailing sob noise again.

"Uh, no." Effy shook her head and looked a little perturbed when it started bawling again. "It's got your nose," she decided, and no she wasn't taking it.

"It's got your scream," Griff countered, pulling the thing back to make it stop with the noise.

"Really doesn't." Effy would always maintain she'd been a quiet one from the word go. "And obviously you've got the knack."

"What you gonna call it, daddy?"

"What, we have to name it?" Griff scoffed, turning it over to make sure there wasn't a preprinted name on the thing's shirt collar.

"Just a suggestion," she said, shrugging as she watched him examine it. Like she cared.

"Thought you might be a kid person." Or hoped, more like.

"Been on my own since I was twelve," Griff shared. "Wanna call it Lemur?" The eyes were a bit far apart there, after all.

Learning new little tidbits all the time. Effy filed that away carefully with a slight nod.

"Why not." She didn't have any better options. "Can think of it like a pet or something." Far easier than thinking of it like an actual baby.

Griff seemed a little happier with the droid child now that it was named something idiotic. "Makes sense it's not really human anyhow."

"Fucking creepy is what it is," Effy noted. The fuzzy Ewok was undoubtedly the cuter of the pair. "Thought babies were supposed to be cute." In which case, someone got something wrong when they were creating these things.
