Today Anakin's desk was covered with droid babies in bassinets. Each baby had a tiny stuffed Ewok tucked next to it. Hush.

"Today we talk about lust," Anakin said, pulling his attention back from the wall he'd been staring at, trying to get a handle on a bad feeling he'd been having since stepping foot on the island yesterday. "Or rather, the unintended consequences that can happen when you take action without precautions."

He smiled. Evilly. Some of his lesson plans might have changed this semester, but he had been looking forward to the droid babies with something close to unholy glee this go-around. "Meet your little projects for the next week. They're heavy, they cry, and they will record everything you do with them. So if you stuff them into a closet for the duration, believe me, I'll know."

After all, he'd built all of them.

He reached for a list of paper. "I've paired you up together." His smile turned a little more evil. "And some of your babies are a little fussier than others."

"Why?" Leia asked. "Jaina's turned out well, so I obviously do something right when the time comes."

Oh, how little she knew.

A little flash of amusement danced in Anakin's eyes, but he didn't correct her.

"That's a different timeline," he said. "You still need to learn the lessons that Jaina's mother has had."

"Did her mother meet her own not-so-dead-after-all father in a high school in another galaxy and get a pair of droid babies handed off to her?" Leia argued stubbornly. "Somehow I don't think so."

"If I say yes, will your head explode?" Anakin teased.

Leia considered that. "No, not really," she decided. "Because that might mean I'm really her mother and not some alternate version of her, and I think I like that idea."

Anakin was highly trained at remaining neutral, so none of his thoughts showed on his face (for once. He was highly trained but not exactly disciplined in this particular art).

"And then her head would explode at having the same mom in two different timelines. Who dated Chuck Bass."

"Different timelines are confusing enough as it is," Leia said, making a face. She didn't like to think about them too hard or it made her head hurt.

"Do Jaina or Ben have another you back in their own world? And where are you right now in mine?" She was more than happy to get off the topic of babies and pester her father with questions he probably wouldn't answer.

"I'm dead," Anakin replied with a philosophical shrug of his shoulders.

Nice dodge, Anakin.

"I'd already figured that part out," Leia said dryly. "But wouldn't you want to know about your children?"

"I would," Anakin said, "but other versions of me might not have known you existed."

"So I should just ignore the father in my own world and accept the one in this one?" Leia said. Only in Fandom would that sentence make any sense.

"Yes," Anakin said, sounding surprisingly sincere.

He felt that this could lead to a lot less heartache in the long run.

"You already have five versions of me," Leia said. Ouch. That really made her head hurt. "What if I don't want to share?"

"I don't really know any of them," Anakin replied.

That had been his Leia's choice, and he couldn't fault her for it.

"I'd like to know you."

"And I want to know you," Leia said. "But you make it so difficult sometimes."

"I'd say it's part of my charm, but I can feel Rory kicking me from here," Anakin said.

Leia made a decidedly unladylike snort. "Good for her," she said.

"Do you like her?" Anakin asked, trying not to look like the answer was important to him.

"She was nice," Leia said. And not an evil-stepmother type, which she hadn't worried about at all. Really. "I liked her, yes."

Anakin visibly relaxed. "She liked you too. She wants you to babysit some time."

Beat.

"And not get Dan to do it."

"I don't even know him," Leia said. "I wouldn't trust him with my sister!" Even if she was a half-alternate-universe sister.

"But you'd trust him with a portion of your grade," Anakin replied, arching up his eyebrow again.

"Droids are not my sister," Leia said. "There's a huge difference."

"I helped make them both," Anakin said.

That is a phenomenally stupid argument, Anakin.

And Leia gave him a look that said she agreed with that assessment of the argument. "Not in the same way, I hope," she said.
