Today Anakin's desk was covered with droid babies in bassinets. Each baby had a tiny stuffed Ewok tucked next to it. Hush.

"Today we talk about lust," Anakin said, pulling his attention back from the wall he'd been staring at, trying to get a handle on a bad feeling he'd been having since stepping foot on the island yesterday. "Or rather, the unintended consequences that can happen when you take action without precautions."

He smiled. Evilly. Some of his lesson plans might have changed this semester, but he had been looking forward to the droid babies with something close to unholy glee this go-around. "Meet your little projects for the next week. They're heavy, they cry, and they will record everything you do with them. So if you stuff them into a closet for the duration, believe me, I'll know."

After all, he'd built all of them.

He reached for a list of paper. "I've paired you up together." His smile turned a little more evil. "And some of your babies are a little fussier than others."

Oh, really, like you didn't see that coming.

No, Dan did not see that coming. He did not see that coming at all. "Why do we have to have two kids?"

Judging you so hard right now, Anakin.

"I think this is my father's attempt to be funny," Leia said, shooting a glare in Anakin's direction. "I'm sorry you get to be caught in the crossfire."

"Oh--oh I didn't know he was your dad." Well that kind of added some pressure. "It's fine. I just, um, never took care of a baby before. Or a robot, for that matter."

"I know I have a daughter in the future," Leia said with a sigh. "The distant future." She had no idea how old she was when Jaina was born, but it wasn't anytime soon, that had to be certain. She was smarter than that. And she certainly wasn't going to let a crying droid get the better of her. Or even two of them.

"Wow. That's kind of screwed up," Dan said. Just wait until the weekend after Prom, Dan. "I guess we're just gonna have to wing this parental thing then."

And this boy wasn't a scoundrel. Totally not her type. Anakin did that on purpose, she was certain of it.

"I'm going to be terribly busy with my career as a senator," Leia mused. "I don't suppose you'll want to stay at home and take care of the children?"

"I'll be fine with that so long as you're willing to support me while I become a successful writer," Dan said. "It might take a while."

"Of course," Leia said. "We'd have a residence in the Aldera Royal Palace, and you'd be able to write -- what do you write?" She supposed it would be too much to hope that he would write stirring treatises on what was wrong with the Empire and how things needed to be changed.

Yep, it would definitely be too much to hope for. "Uh, fiction, mostly. Sometimes poetry."

Yeah, she'd be supporting him for a while.

Fiction. If he wrote about sparkling energy vampires or emo poetry, she'd have to kill him. But she put on a smile. "Art always has a place in the world," she said, "and is to be treasured. You'll be able to spend time writing when the children are napping. I'll have to spend a great deal of time in the senate on Coruscant." Not that she ever intended to abandon her own daughter like that, but droid babies? She'd totally foist those off on her "husband."

"I think that's an arrangement I can deal with." Because Dan was a sucker and had no idea what a Coruscant was. "Do you think we should name these things or do you think that's too much like naming your toaster?"

"The girl is Jaina," Leia decided, that being her daughter's name and all. "And the boy...he has to be Anakin, after my father."

She bet the boy droid would whine. A lot.

"I'm sure your dad is gonna love that," Dan said, glancing over at Anakin. "But it's what he gets for giving us two of them."

"And I'm sure you'll do an excellent job taking care of them," Leia said. "You wouldn't want to disappoint your father-in-law. I'll check in from time to time to visit my darling children when my duties allow." The definition of senatorial duties was at the moment very broad.

Dan, the stupid idiot that he was, was incapable of arguing about the fairness of this situation with a pretty girl. "You sure you don't want to, um, take care of them one night?"

Not that he'd complain if she didn't. He was just that pathetic when it came to interacting with girls.

"I'll have to check my schedule," Leia said, pretending to think about it. "I'll let you know. The life of a senator is such a busy one."

Dan, the dumb idiot, fell for that like a ton of bricks. He knew she wasn't a senator but she was being cute about this whole thing. "Oh, well, that's completely understandable. You're pretty much saving the world. And you don't have to wear uncomfortable spandex outfits like most people who do that sort of thing tend to do."

Leia preferred boys that had a brain, but dumb ones had their uses, too. "Exactly," she said. "And it will be so much easier for me to do that when I don't have to worry about my darling children. I know they'll be in your strong and capable hands."

Dumb ones were also so much easier to manipulate.
