Once the library was set up for the day, Sam planted himself at the desk with a notebook, and got back to writing down everything he could remember from the weekend. Sure, his dad had said there was nothing to worry about, but that was what he always said, like it ever had a chance of convincing Sam to leave everything in his dad's hands. If there was even the slightest chance that this whole destiny thing with Lucifer was true, he needed to be ready to stop it...or to make sure people like Dean and Peter knew what to do if he couldn't.

"Always a good thing," Sam said, getting quiet for a moment. "You've gotten a lot stronger since the last time. Standing up to the devil? That was pretty brave."

Chuck sighed a little and avoided looking Sam in the eye. "I wouldn't have been brave if I didn't know how this Fandom stuff worked."

"That doesn't change the fact that you stood up for me," Sam said, wishing he could read Chuck's mind. "Are you mad at me? Is that why you haven't been talking to me? Because believe me, if I could have woken up as myself on Saturday, I would have."

"I'm not mad at you. It wasn't your fault," he said. "It was just...unsettling."

Unsettling hadn't been the word he wanted to use, but he was not about to admit that the whole thing had been scary as hell. No pun intended.

"'Cause you thought I'd finally gained fashion sense, and ended up disappointed?" Sam said, trying to crack a joke.

"Something like that," Chuck said, smiling a little. "It's pretty sad when Lucifer dresses better than you do. Might be an angel thing. Even Castiel can throw a decent outfit together when he wants to."

"I totally clean up well when I have a reason to," Sam said. "I've got a suit, for weddings and dances and stuff."

Chuck rolled his eyes playfully. "The fact you need a reason to look nice tells me that you're a lost cause."

"I always try to look presentable," Sam said. "But dressing up for special occasions wouldn't mean as much if I wore a suit every day."

"Says you." Chuck wore a suit every day and he still managed to look better than everyone else on special occasions. "At least now I know that you dressing up when you don't have to is a surefire sign that you're evil."

"So is being mean to you," Sam said. "I'm sorry you had to see that. I'm sorry he messed with you."

"It wasn't your fault," Chuck said again. "He wasn't even that mean. He was just...incredibly confident that he was right about what was going to happen in the future. That's what bothered me."

"People tend to get that way when destinies are involved. My dad's already looking into it," Sam said, in case that would help. "I don't care what he said, it's not going to happen."

"I know it's not," he said. Chuck had never doubted that. "I wouldn't let it happen."

"You'd really try to stop it?" Sam asked, unable to keep from grinning.

"Try? I would stop it," Chuck said confidently. "You seem to forget that I don't like to lose."

"Yeah, but this isn't a business merger or something. It could be dangerous," Sam said. My dad's looking into it, Dean will be helping...you don't have to do anything."

"Business mergers are only one of my many skills, Sam," he said. "You're crazy if you think I'm gonna sit back and pretend nothing happened."

"Well...okay," Sam said, not up for arguing with Chuck about this. It had been one thing to have Raven and Claire step up and offer to help, but he'd never expected it from Chuck, and he had to admit, it almost meant more than hearing it from the girls. "Thanks, Chuck. Hopefully, we'll never have to worry about this at all."

"Yeah, I hope we don't either," he said. "No offense, but I kind of wished I dealt with naked Castiel this weekend instead. Or a bunch of kids. That was actually fun."

"I wish you'd dealt with naked Castiel too. Then you'd be able to tell me how embarrassing it was," Sam said with a laugh.

"Embarrassing? More like awesome," Chuck said. "He was all confident that the island couldn't affect him and I told him it could. For once I am right and I'm going to rub it in his face the first chance I get."

"Well, I certainly can't begrudge you an 'I told you so' moment," Sam said. "Just hope he doesn't get annoyed and try to smite you."

"Please, he'd never smite me," Chuck said. "He likes me too much."

"Even when you make fun of him for getting a cosmic smackdown by the island?" Sam asked.
