Library [03/07]

It was just another day in the library, damn it.

Jono had heard the radio last night, yes, and he was well aware that the entire island had gone absolutely barking mad, but, come hell or high water, he was going to do his best to make certain that today was just another day in the library, damn it.

... Mostly, this involved playing Farmville.

"Something weird is going on," Jak announced, padding into the library with a dubious look on his face. At least his roommate was normal.

Yeah, Haven wasn't exactly much for sane, either.

Jak shook his head. "I hope it wears off by the end of the weekend," he said, leaning over Jono's desk.

Jak... winced. It seemed sympathetic, at the time.

"Yeah," he said. Sympathetically. Jono spoke fluid Guy, he'd get the gist. "So it's been a weird couple of weeks."

Awkward segue, man, but he'd been putting off talking to Jono about... girls. And Keira. And stuff. And-- well, he wasn't much of a talker in general, so he wasn't sure how 'getting things off your chest' really worked anyway.

It was a good distraction from the craziness of the weekend?

"So did I ever mention Keira to you?"

Considering that at the time that Keira had actually been a regular part of Jak's life, he hadn't been able to talk, that answer was probably a no.

"She was that girl, you know?"

You know. That girl. That you hung around with, and that could maybe possibly become your girl, except she wasn't your girl yet, and then weird shit happened with portals and metal creatures and stuff.

That girl.

"I found her, and, uh. It turns out she's working as a mechanic now. She has her own racing team."

"I guess."

Jak shrugged, leaned back against the desk, and then shrugged again for good measure (smooth). "She's having trouble dealing with all the changes." You know. The length of Jak's hair, Jak's choice in friends, Jak's newfound ability to turn into a raving angry berserker on a whim...

"So that was awkward."

Yeah, see, that. "I hear you," said Jak, who definitely did. Hear him. "And then they keep talking to you like it's the way it used to be, like it's just going to snap back."

Keira hadn't quite advanced to the stabbing-him-in-the-back part, yet. Mostly because Jak didn't know about her and Erol yet. "Yeah, ex-girlfriends are weird." Sort-of ex-girlfriends, in one case, really ex-girlfriends in the other, you know, weird.

"Rough times," Jak said, not without sympathy, and put his back further into his lean. "Did she get all high and mighty on you?"

Shrugging was what these exchanges were all about.

"Yeah, you have to love it when they do that," Jak said, philosophically. "She complained I'd changed and the whole place was creepy." Yep. "I don't know how that's my fault or my problem."

"Exactly."

Jak knew he could rely on Jono to get it. See? That was the whole problem, right there. He nodded along.

"It doesn't apologize, and it doesn't bend back into the right shape." Which was a lesson both of his sort-of ex-girlfriends should learn. Seriously. He made a gesture at his head, clearly representing insanity. "But no, that's too hard to get."
