As much as Sam hadn't wanted to let Peter go back to New York, he couldn't keep him in Fandom if it meant keeping him away from Nathan. Still, as worried as he was, and as often as he checked his phone to see if Peter had texted him or left a message, Sam probably looked happier than he had in ages. Surely the apocalypse was coming.

No longer an emo giant! You know, for a few days.

So Chuck totally lied about coming back in time for class yesterday. He felt that the fact that he was adorable plus the fact that he was here now made up for the lying.

"Hey." Chuck looked down at his hands and realized he totally forgot about food. Whoops. Oh well, he'd just pretend he did it on purpose. Say Sam was getting fat or something.

Sam didn't even notice the lack of food, too busy grinning at Chuck. "Hey, you're back," he said. "You survived your trip?"

"Barely. I shouldn't even be back. There's still a lot to do," Chuck said, sitting down. "But I think I missed you people."

"Awww, I missed you too," Sam said. "Are there things you can do from here? Like, long distance?"

"Some things. Most of it, actually. It's just meetings and stuff go better when I'm there in person," Chuck said. "And it shows that I'm serious about this whole CEO thing."

"So does graduating from high school," Sam pointed out. "You'll be better off for having stayed here a few more months."

"Trust me, I'd rather be here for so many reasons. Living with Lily has suddenly lost its charm," Chuck said. He sunk down into his chair a little. "She's dating someone else."

"That's a bad thing?" Sam asked. "Do you not like the guy?"

"Well, for one, my dad died like three months ago," Chuck pointed out. "That's a bit disrespectful, don't you think?"

"Yeah, that is awfully close," Sam said. "Maybe this is her way of dealing? Maybe it doesn't mean anything?"

Chuck slunk down into the chair even more and actually sort of looked embarrassed to admit this. "It means something. They, um, they've dated before and had a kid together which they gave up for adoption. And on top of that, the guy is Dan Humphrey's father."

His home life was like a soap opera, it really was.

"Dan Humphrey the guy you do radio with?" Sam asked. "Who I'm not allowed to talk to?" See, he could be good and remember. "Okay yeah, that's really awkward."

"That would be the one, yes," he said. "So you can see why I would prefer to be here."

"Yeah, that makes sense. Does he know? Dan, I mean," Sam asked. "'Cause he's not your Dan, right?"

"No he doesn't know," Chuck said, shaking his head. "Like I'm going to be the one to tell him he shares a half-brother with his future girlfriend."

He looked up at Sam. "Oh yeah, the other Dan is dating my sister."

Chuck didn't know why he forgot that part. Probably because it seemed to unbelievable.

Sam just stared a little at Chuck, like that would make the thought process work better. "No wonder you have gossip blogs writing about your life," he said. "That's crazy."

"I know, right?" It was weird even for him. "The only good thing out of this is that I get to say I told you so over why Lily wanted me home. I knew it was gonna be bad. Told you so."

Sam rolled his eyes, but he had to admit that Chuck had a point. "Okay, you were right. Clearly, you know your family situation better than I do."

"And don't you forget it," he said, smirking. "Hearing you say I'm right really did wonders for my mood. It should happen more often."

"That would require you being right and me being wrong, and I don't know if that's going to happen again any time soon," Sam teased.

"I am right about plenty of things," he insisted. "You just haven't realized you're wrong about them yet."

Claire pretty much bounced in to the library with Sam's coffee this morning.

Yes, her own mug still had hot chocolate. She really didn't need caffeine to be this happy right now.

"Morning, Sam!"

"Hey Claire," Sam said. "How's it going?"

"Pretty great," Claire said, handing him his coffee. "How's Peter? Has he remembered anything yet?"

"He remembered everything," Sam said happily. "He's fine now. Like, totally fine."

"Oh that's wonderful!" Claire said. "Does that mean I can visit him?"

"Well, you can, but you'll have to go to New York," Sam said. "He went home to see Nathan."

"Of course he did," Claire said with a smirk, albeit a happy one. "I'll give him a call."

"I think he'd really like that," Sam said. "Especially now that he'll remember you. I still can't believe it. It's like an insane dream."

Claire nodded. "I don't think I've stopped smiling since you called me."

"I don't think I've stopped smiling since yesterday when his memories came back," Sam said. "I'm worried about him not being here, but he keeps telling me he's okay, so..."

"It's Peter. He'll be fine," Claire said. "And he has us if anything happens."

She was feeling pretty optimistic, yes.

"And he knows now that if he gets into trouble, he doesn't get to try to hide from me, or I'll track him down to the ends of the earth." Not that Sam was still a little upset or anything.

Okay, that made Claire's smile falter a little. "What? Why on Earth would he think that in the first place?"

"After the explosion, he thought Nathan was dead," Sam explained. "He thought it was his fault, so he let himself get locked up because he thought he should be away from everyone. I think I made it clear though that that was the wrong choice."

Claire couldn't help but facepalm. "Okay, then. I hope he believed you."

Once he pings in!
