"Next week is your break," Sirius said with a slightly evil smile. "Which is lucky, as this week we have an interactive midterm for you to work on while you're supposed to be relaxing."

"Today we're assigning your pairs -- and one group of three. Over the course of the week, you will be ~~playing Spy versus Spy!~~ attempting to disarm one another. I cannot stress this enough, though -- any injuries will result in no credit and an immediate detention, and that's the very least of your concerns at that point. Your opponent will need to declare a surrender to denote a victory. You may agree upon the terms during this class, but anyone using their powers to hurt another student will, again, be severely punished."

Sirius held up really ugly belts with red flags attached to them. Someone had been raiding the gym supply closet....

"So you'll be wearing these. The first of the pair to steal the other person's flag wins. Listen carefully for your names. " He waved his wand and a piece of parchment appeared:

"Uneventful enough," Remus replied, just as idly. "You were there."

"Oh, that's right," Sirius said, holding out his packet of sweets. "Conversation heart? They don't actually talk here. Very odd. And rather chalky, if I'm being honest."

"Why don't they talk?" Remus wondered, taking a heart. "Rather defeats the purpose."

"This one says 'txt me', which isn't even English," Sirius complained.

"Perhaps it's runes," Remus suggested.

"Think we should send some back to Hogwarts?" Sirius mused. "Or perhaps to Arthur. He understands Muggles."

"I think Molly would dislike our encouraging that," Remus commented.

"Oh, she dislikes me in general," Sirius said, waving a hand. "We can just say it was from me." He barked out a laugh. "I'm sure she wasn't the one who sent me flowers this weekend."

Oooh, subtle.

"Did you receive flowers?" Remus asked ever so very mildly, his eyebrow artfully only raised the tiniest bit. "Perhaps you have a secret admirer."

"Do you think so?" Sirius asked, smiling. "I haven't the foggiest idea who it might be."

Because Sirius was very dense.

"Perhaps another teacher," Remus said.

For him, that was hinting.

Sirius looked thoughtful. "But I really only know you and Deadpool," he mused. "And Deadpool doesn't seem like the flower type."

"Funny, that," Remus said, now a touch snippy. "Then maybe you'll just have to think harder for your answer, Padfoot. I don't know why you're concerned about it, anyway, or what you expect me to do."

Sirius knew that tone, having been on the receiving end of it for twenty years now. If he'd been in dog form, his ears would have drooped.

"Well, it seemed only polite to acknowledge the gesture, Moony," he replied. "I was hoping you might have some insight."

"Did the card give you any clues?" Remus asked, giving Sirius one last shot at this. "Perhaps it might help."

Sirius was quiet for a second as he thought about it. "It was a bit like a homework assign--"

His jaw dropped. Oh, he knew who it was from now. It was just going to take him a second to process.

The slow smile was a good hint that he wasn't displeased by the thought.

Remus needed to get out of there, fast. He wasn't exactly sure what was supposed to happen in this moment -- frankly, he'd been prepared to be irritated with Sirius' inability to figure it out for the rest of their lives.

"Well, then. I'll leave you to ponder that," he said briskly, trying his very best to ignore the fact that he could feel his cheeks heating up. For god's sake, he was nearly thirty-five. This was absurd. "I'll see you at home."

And with that, he gathered his papers, not even bothering to check if he had them right, and scurried on out the door.
