For the last few semesters, Anakin had called on his experiences in the Clone Wars for the midterm subject matter. With Leia in the class, that would just leave him open to a lot of questions he wasn't ready to answer.

So he went further back into his history and completely reprogrammed the Danger Shop's look for this test.

"When I was thirteen years old," he began, "and had built my first lightsaber, my master and I were sent on an assignment to protect a diplomatic vessel from attack from a T'surr slaver named Krayn." As he gestured, the giant blue alien appeared in the center of the room, which had now shifted to resembled the non-too-clean interior of the slaver's transport vessel. "Our mission was simple: to disable Krayn's ship and return to our own."

He held up a hand: "However. Krayn was a slaver, and had been for almost a decade. He had ruined countless lives, had raided slaves from a multitude of systems--" including Tatooine, but Anakin wouldn't be mentioning that, "--and his slaves were used to process spice: itself an illegal, dangerous narcotic in our galaxy, which had made him very, very rich, not to mention extremely powerful. Your choice in the assignment today is simple: follow your master and disable the weapons systems of this ship and escape, or break off on your own and try to track down Krayn and free the slaves on this vessel."

With a gesture from Anakin, lightsaber hilts appeared in the air above each student. "Remember what you have learned about the dangers of anger and pride. Choose wisely. May the Force be with you. You may pair up with a fellow student if you'd like."

"I don't know if wish is the right word," Andy said. "I have them. I just want to be able to control them, be able to use them effectively when I need to."

"Why would you want to use Force lightning?" Anakin demanded. "Pick up a weapon. It's less dangerous."

Andy spread his hands. "It's not like I woke up and said, I'd like to throw lightning bolts around. I don't choose what powers I've manifested. That's just what I got."

"There's a choice to use them or not," Anakin replied. "Where I come from--when I come from," he amended, thinking a little sourly about Jolee and Jaina, "shooting lightning from your hands isn't exactly a friendly power to use."

"Yeah, I don't think it's particularly friendly whenever you come from," Andy admitted. "But sometimes you need to meet unfriendly with unfriendly. But that's besides the point really because now that I've got it, I need to learn to control it."

Anakin pursed his lips, but nodded. "I won't teach you anything offensive with it," he warned. "For me to do that takes me down a path I refuse to tread. But I can show defensive moves."

"That would be awesome," Andy said. "Really, I'd much rather talk my way out of situations than, y'know, electrocute my way out. I'm not what anyone would think of when they think of a fighter."

"Or you can just convince them you weren't there?" Anakin guessed.

It was one of the Jedi's favorite moves.

Andy grinned. "Just like in that movie, Space Battles."

"Only real," Anakin replied.

"Yeah. As powers go, it's pretty awesome."

"Depends on who you ask," Anakin replied. "Around here, messing with someone's mind gets you all the hysteria normally reserved for slave raids."

Hello, bitter.

"Considering the number of times already I've had to sit through classes that went on about how what I do is immoral, unethical or 'unforgivable,' I've got that point driven home," Andy said. "But I still don't agree with that. It's not what you do, but when and how that makes something unethical or not."

"And not getting caught at it helps," Anakin added. "At home, it diffuses situations without violence."

"It's good for that, yeah," Andy agreed. "Not that I've been in a lot of violent situations since I got here, but I did stop a gremlin from biting me."

"The one you mention on the radio?" Anakin asked.
