For the last few semesters, Anakin had called on his experiences in the Clone Wars for the midterm subject matter. With Leia in the class, that would just leave him open to a lot of questions he wasn't ready to answer.

So he went further back into his history and completely reprogrammed the Danger Shop's look for this test.

"When I was thirteen years old," he began, "and had built my first lightsaber, my master and I were sent on an assignment to protect a diplomatic vessel from attack from a T'surr slaver named Krayn." As he gestured, the giant blue alien appeared in the center of the room, which had now shifted to resembled the non-too-clean interior of the slaver's transport vessel. "Our mission was simple: to disable Krayn's ship and return to our own."

He held up a hand: "However. Krayn was a slaver, and had been for almost a decade. He had ruined countless lives, had raided slaves from a multitude of systems--" including Tatooine, but Anakin wouldn't be mentioning that, "--and his slaves were used to process spice: itself an illegal, dangerous narcotic in our galaxy, which had made him very, very rich, not to mention extremely powerful. Your choice in the assignment today is simple: follow your master and disable the weapons systems of this ship and escape, or break off on your own and try to track down Krayn and free the slaves on this vessel."

With a gesture from Anakin, lightsaber hilts appeared in the air above each student. "Remember what you have learned about the dangers of anger and pride. Choose wisely. May the Force be with you. You may pair up with a fellow student if you'd like."

As you look around the ship that surrounds you, there aren't exactly sign posts for where to go, but you've started off in the engine room (Anakin having piloted the tiny infiltration craft though the exhaust ports, as you do. Well, if you're him), and the weapons systems are normally a few rooms over.

The captain of the ship could be anywhere.

And think fast, because the engine room isn't exactly empty. You'll have three seconds when the simulation springs to life to start moving before the slavers start shooting.

Aren't midterms fun?

Watch him mentally bash his head against a wall several times before picking an option! It was fun for the whole family!

As soon as Bod realized he was alone in the small room, he tried to find somewhere to fold himself against or into so he wouldn't be seen for a few moments. The room would be searched, he knew, but he had experience with dodging and slipping past people as if they didn't know it.

So, he pressed himself against a wall, hiding behind a small jutting machine and waited, barely breathing. He figured he could make a plan while waiting out whoever might come into the room.

Okay, maybe a few squeaky sounds got out. A couple. He couldn't help it. Lightsabers were so cool!

Griff's eyes went wide at the lightsaber, but he grabbed hold of it like it was a baseball bat.

This could be interesting.

Bod had disobeyed Silas before. He'd done it several times and he could still see Silas' body hurtling through the air when he'd been struck by the car. It was this image that pushed him to listen this time. Tomorrow, his choice would probably be different but today wasn't tomorrow.

He slipped into the weapons room after several close calls, taking care to quiet his steps and his breathing so he wouldn't alert anyone to his presence.

Dru had always followed her father when they went on a hunt. This was no different. Even though she disliked the idea of leaving the slaver alive, staying together meant staying alive.

Keeping to the shadows, she made her way towards the weapons room.

Zack... didn't much care for the whole slave ship thing, no. But he'd been running missions and taking orders for years, and he understood that there were reasons why soldiers - or SOLDIERS - were sent the places that they did.

... And it was entirely possible that he missed having a mentor to run missions with, in a big way. It didn't matter which direction the Jedi Master went, Zack probably would have toodled along after him, wishing that he was Angeal.

Look for Krayn!

Oh, please. Disable the ship and escape when they had the opportunity to stop a slaver and drug supplier and free the slaves he was holding? Leia was going to take after her father in this case.

Bruce considered going the weapons system route, but he decided to be honest instead. The Jedi Master could take care of himself. If he couldn't, he might not deserve that title.

Going after the slaver, on the other hand, would give Bruce an interesting opportunity to learn.

Calvin knew that neither Spaceman Spiff or Stupendous Man would ever willingly leave an evildoer roaming free, so gripping the lightsaber hilt tightly, he set off down the corridor.

Years of water balloon and snowball fights with Hobbes and Susie meant that he was actually surprisingly competent at the whole stealth thing.

Illyria didn't give a rat's gluteal portion about saving slaves. She just didn't like the idea of slinking away and leaving an enemy alive to come after her another day.

Jacob was torn for the whole of those three seconds. Then he remembered the guy with him wasn't the Alpha which meant that he didn't have to listen.

And off he was after Krayn.

The chance to bring some justice to the big bad guy was a strong pull for Griff and he found himself moving away from where the cute Jedi Master was headed.

Blame longislandiceme for making me read the YA novels about Anakin, which is where this came from.

As a warning, which your characters won't know, if you chase Krayn, Obi-Wan finishes the assignment and then leaves your sorry Jedi butt behind. It's amazing Anakin ended up Dark Side, huh?
