The Club Fair - Gym - Friday Afternoon 2/5/10

It was the day of the club fair, so of course Jean was going to be there bright and early to make everything was set up like it should be. What kind of over-achiever would she be without that?

So, the gym was neatly set up and ready for everyone to arrive and look over what new and old clubs there were this semester.

Emmett was there and keeping up a relatively cheerful front while wondering just what the hell he'd gotten himself into. Like he could organize anything besides his closet? (And even that was if you used the word generously.)

Like so much in his life, It seemed like a good idea at the time was sounding like famous last words shortly thereafter.

Gabrielle would be along any minute now. As soon as he, you know, met her or became aware of her existence.

Oh, you try starting a club when you traveled around with one person all the time and ended up getting ganged up on by everyone else on a regular basis. Gabrielle had been trying to figure out where to go with this idea herself for a while now, but various, shall we say, complications in her life had kept derailing it.

Seeing that someone had done it was nice, though, and she was only on her way over to the booth to commend the boy for his initiative.

. . . Gabrielle was good at walking into situations unawares. What can we say?

Right, so. Organizing, and also Doing Boring Official Stuff That Made Emmett Snore, and also Remotely Understanding Girls' Problems. (Or being able to listen to them talk about sex without turning green.)

Emmett set his Gaydar on stun and scanned the mingling cr---ah-HAH!

"Hey there! Yeah, you. Cute baby Amazon girl. Come over here and be my co-Lesbian."

"With those abs? Plus sweetie, you may not be tall enough to make it on American Gladiators, but you dress like you just walked off the set." Emmett waved his hands. "Anyway, labels, schmabels, Mabel. Call yourself whatever you want; we just need some girl-lovin' in the house for this group."

"So what is this about?" Jack asked idly. He wasn't much for labeling his sexuality, but Tony had educated him enough that he was at least vaguely aware this might be something he should talk to someone about.

... also, this guy was cute and he hadn't met him yet. (He had feelings for Emma. He hadn't gone blind.)

It's about this brilliant idea I had for sorting out available men would probably not go over well, and anyway was only 56% true. The humanitarian notion had come first. It had just been courteous enough to give dating potential a reacharound afterwards.

"It's kind of a Gay-Straight Alliance only without the campaigning to save us from bullies because this place seems refreshingly and kind of disturbingly free of people getting pantsed sadly and shoved in dumpsters."

That explained everything, right? "Also, hi, I'm Emmett, and you're dreamy."

Maybe 57%.

He leaned forward subtly. He wasn't exactly checking Emmett out ...but he also wasn't completely avoiding it.

"Eighteen eighty...right." Gremlins. Vanilla extract falling from the sky. His Big Sister was from another plnet, so...1881. Right. "Sorry. It's a group for guys who like guys, girls who like girls and straight kids who don't have a problem with that to support each other if they need that, or just hang out someplace where nobody's gonna judge you for it. And pick each other up. " And pick each other up.

He kind of felt like there should be a little rainbow and The More You Know star shooting over his head right now, but Emmett hadn't really planned ahead on how to explain the idea to somebody not from this century. Or even the last one.

Never let it be said that Emmett Honeycutt couldn't learn and grow. 1881. What. This time he didn't launch right into the Gay-Straight Alliance spiel.

"It's for anybody who feels like they need a safe place to talk about their sexual orientation," was the short answer. "Or gender identity or dressing in tutus and getting tied up with red licorice. We don't judge."

Emmett was 100% certain people actually did that. He'd watched a lot of porn. "Maybe not the licorice specifically?" Emmett gave a shrug, not that he'd mind hearing about it in this guy's voice. ...Wait, was that sandworm-dude? "But high school in America isn't exactly a neverending party for gay kids. Or anybody else who doesn't fit in that way. "

Emmett nodded towards Gabrielle, whose name he actually knew by now. Woo, progress! "Me and my co-Lesbian who isn't." So was. "Hi there. I'm Emmett and you're ...in this week's People. Holy Crap."

There was something about this booth that intrigued Karla. And made her think of Tony and Merlin for some reason. "What's all this?" she asked the male behind the table. "A Support Group? For sex? Like 'Dite's shop?"

Sam was taking a break from the cheerleading table to see what other clubs were around when the name of this club caught his eye. "Hey, are you the one in charge here?" he asked, smiling at Emmett.

"...I guess I am." Emmett hadn't quite thought of it that way. "I suppose there's a first time for everything. I'm Emmett, and you're taller than me, which is impressive." His was not a manly handshake-offer.

Jeepers? Emmett repeated without any voice behind it, then decided to go with 'adorable' rather than 'fruitloops' as his initial assessment. So here's Emmett trying for restraint. "Sex." Right, here's Emmett trying again. "Not actual sex? During the actual meetings." ...Maybe. There was always ducking outside for a quote smoke unquote. "Just talking about it."
