DADA For Muggles [Wednesday, February 3]

Today, the classroom had a bit of an artificial warmth to it. Remus had magically ensured as much, as the windows were open. And why was that? Because today's guests were, well, aromatic.

"Welcome to our zombie lesson!" Sirius said.

"In our world," Remus said, ever the educator even in the face of...zombies, "they are called Inferi. They're dormant guards for dark wizards, and will work in groups to smother or drown an intruder. Here, from what I can tell, zombies are human victims of the bite of another zombie. And since zombies feed on human flesh, it creates a cycle of constant biting and infecting."

"And sometimes they play music down at the local pub," Sirius said, looking a little confused by that. "And in films, they shuffle faster than living people at a dead sprint. How that works is a mystery for the ages. The lesson to glean from this, children," he said, pointing a finger at the Inferi, "is that the dead should stay dead. This is no way to come back." He clapped his hands together. "Today we offer you two options for interaction: taping back our poor friends' parts onto themselves, or constructing a breathing mask so that the smell doesn't knock you out."

"Or both," Remus added. "You may need it."

No. No way was Mirax going anywhere near anything that was falling apart, especially hearing about one version that smothered you and one version that bit you and made you one. Without the assurance that it was safe without that handy sanctuary spell, she'd be over here.

Way the hell over here.

Now this was good, practical practice! Makita was humming to herself as she started tinkering with things, putting something together. She'd stay over here, far away from the undead abominations.

The idea of being trapped like that, unable to pass into the next life wasn't helping with the nausea she was feeling. Better to let their limbs fall off so they could, hopefully, be sent to rest, rather than stay trapped forever.

It wasn't just Warren's upbringing, which had seen to it that he'd never had to dirty his hands in his life, that cemented his decision to say as far away from the rotting walking bodies as humanly possible, no.

... But it had certainly helped.

He'd even hiked the front of his shirt up just enough to cover his nose while he worked on making something more functional to do the same.

Leda had never made a breathing apparatus before, but her years of living on the street had given her certain skillz when it came to taking random stuff and making something useful.

And the smell that was making her nauseous? Added motivation.
