Law and Order: Interdimensional Edition - Week Two

Ziva waited somewhat patiently at the front of the room for everyone to sit down before clearing her throat and beginning class.

"Since we discussed the most important skill of an officer last week, I thought it would be best to learn about an officer's second most important skill today. Knowing how to track someone without being caught is really an invaluable skill for anyone, but it is especially important for those who are working in law enforcement. Sometimes, for example, you will need to do surveillance on a suspect to gather evidence to bring to court. Criminals rarely commit crimes when they know they are being watched." And the ones who did were far too crazy to discuss so early in the semester. "You must often be sneaky in order to obtain pictures or video to catch your suspect in the act of their crime. Other times, you will need to be able to follow a suspect in order to apprehend them. If you are noticed and they try to escape, it makes for a much bigger hassle to catch them."

Ziva grabbed a stack of handouts, and passed them out before going over the essential requirements of stealthy following. "If the rest of you have anything to add, feel free to say so," she said, looking to the other teachers who were there. "It is possible that I have forgotten something important."

When the discussion was over, Ziva went back around the room and handed each student a piece of paper. "This is your homework assignment," she said. "Each of you has been given the name of another student in this class. Your assignment is to track this student down at some point before the next class and observe them for at least ten minutes without catching their notice. Having another class with them does not count. You must scout them up--" Out, up, whatever. "--and find them outside of your classes. Does anyone have any questions?"

Dinah actually thought it was a pretty cool accent, and was taking diligent notes on the handout during the discussion.

As much as Jaina hated taking notes, she was definitely checking out the handout. Okay maybe Rose was right and she needed to work on her sneaky, so this class might come in handy.

Ben was trying not to look too excited about this assignment, but this was right up his alley.

Hoshi read over the handout, then took notes in the margin. She wasn't sure how sneaky she could be, but it might be a useful skill to pick up.

Ahh. Momoko nodded and scribbled notes; this would come in very handy! She was used to finding places to transform without being seen, but relied heavily upon the conveniently placed potted plant, etc., when trying to follow people. Not that she did much of that.

Well, except for that one time, when she saw the famous star of that one drama walking downtown. Oh, and that really cute captain of the school track team... and that one guy who wouldn't tell her where he'd bought that rare Miracle Ace edition 2 cell phone fob...

"Out," Gibbs corrected Ziva when she was done. "Not up."

Hey. Tony wasn't around. Someone had to tell her.

"When following someone remember that their blind spot is your best friend. If they're engrossed in an activity the closer you can get," Gibbs added for the class. "Whether it be a conversation or them being on a computer. If they are concentrating on something else they won't be looking for you."

And if you're Tony DiNozzo? That's when you smack him in the head.

Max demonstrated the topic for the class by silently stalking Gibbs.

Since Gibbs wasn't really moving much, that mostly meant standing behind him and making faces.

Dinah knew who Gwen Cooper was, thanks to last week's question about which Cooper was her co-TA. She didn't know anything else about her. So she was also taking notes on that during class.

Momoko wondered who had her name while she glanced around to try to see where Naomi was sitting. All while not giving away who she was actually looking for.

It was really harder than she expected.

Dinah was there, looking fairly battered, but yes, she'd remembered to get the coffee. The good kind. Mmmm, coffee. Too bad she wasn't allowed to have that for a couple days.

Ben shot her a slightly cocky grin that faded a bit when he realized how beat up she looked. It wouldn't be as fun to sneak up on her if she was zoned out on pain meds.
