"Today we discuss lying," Anakin said as he closed the classroom door precisely on time. "Everyone lies. 'Of course that doesn't make your butt look big.' 'You like her, I like her.' 'I'm totally okay with you moving on.' 'Everything's fine, why do you ask?' It's how the world goes around because no one wants to be trapped in a conversation where someone whines at you for hours on end about how awful their life is."

He looked around the room. "Trust me. Everyone's life is terrible. They're just not telling you about it. Be grateful."

He reached onto his desk for a piece of paper. "Today we're conducting an exercise to see how well you pass this particular social ritual, then we'll discuss whether you think it is necessary. We're playing two truths and a lie. I'll tell you three things about myself and you have to decide which one is the falsehood. Then you'll all tell three things and we'll see how well you can either read each other or keep things hidden."

He gave them a small smile. "I'm very good at this." It had taken him a very long time to come up with things that Leia either wouldn't know or shouldn't know, but that was hardly the point, was it? He schooled his face to absolute neutrality, put his mental blocks up to bar any psychics in the room from gaining an advantage, then said: "I have never lost a lightsaber duel. I hate sand. I can fly any ship I ever sat at the controls of." His eyes challenged them to call him out. "Who's next?"

Jacob considered saying three truths, but it wasn't like he'd be able to get them spoken.

"I'm the Chief's son, I've built my own car and I've jumped off a cliff," Jacob said, perhaps cheating a little bit.

"Chief of what?" Claire asked.

"Our tribe," Jacob replied. "The Quileute."

Claire nodded. "Okay, then I'll guess you have not built your own car."

"Sorry, but nope. I totally did," he said, rather proud of it too. "Well, not from scratch. It's a Volkswagen, but I redid the entire engine and fixed up the rest." And she was in danger of getting her ears talked off about cars right now.

"Hmm, okay, then your dad isn't the Chief," she said. For some reason he looked like the kind of person who would jump off a cliff.

Jacob snorted, but he nodded. "Well, he would have been but we don't really have a Chief anymore."

Claire lowered and voice and leaned over. "There's a group of us who go rappelling off the dorm roof sometimes."

"Without them busting your asses?" Jacob asked.

"Haven't gotten in trouble yet," she confirmed.

"So either you're good or security here sucks," Jacob pondered. "Or doesn't care. You've got a mountie, no?"

"I don't think they care as long as we don't break anything or anyone."

"That's kind of cool," he had to admit. "I think my old principal would bust something if he say anyone attempting anything like it."

"It's mostly girls," she said. "But I can let you know next time we decide to do it. Probably when it gets warmer."

Jacob considered it for an instant, but safety cords and all that stuff? Not so much of a thrill and going without them, well, that'd be a bit too obvious.

"Thanks," he said, "but I don't think it's my thing. I'm not sure I can handle being heights and being surrounded by chicks. You know, guys and multitasking."

"I thought you were more of a motorcycle kind of guy," Layla said with a raised eyebrow.

And yeah. A smirk.

Jacob eyed her, wondering exactly how much she did know. Too much, he knew, but still. "I try not to discriminate, but if you want a bike fixed up or something..."

That had to be wrong somehow.

"That would be some weird kind of symmetry," Layla said shaking her head. "But no. Nothing mechanical for you to fix this week."

"Next week then," he suggested. "If I'm not too intimidated after hearing your truths." Probably not.

"That would mean I'd have to buy something motorized first," Layla smirked. "And I don't even have a parking space."

"Hey, if you don't want to that's fine by me. It means I can continue being lazy," he said. Not that he'd mind having an engine to tinker on. He hadn't done anything like that since he became a werewolf.
