Library [1-07]

George finished shelving the books quickly and the other little library tasks. It seemed like there were more on a weekday than Saturday, but he so wasn't going to complain about getting his Saturdays free now.

He settled down behind the desk finally with a mug of hot chocolate (it had been so nice to come back to Fandom and be able to have the stuff again) and a selection of books, some about the US Justice system (thank you, Miss Cabot) and some about famous mobsters.

"Kiss kiss, lass," he said, grinning over at her. Okay, so the greeting sounded really stupid out of his mouth but so it went. "I was worrit you'd gone home or some such."

"Me?" Karla protested. "Where did you get that idea? Other than the trip to New York, I've been here all break."

"Twas possible," he defended himself. "An' I hadn't seen ye so it might've happened. I'm glad ye didn'."

"You're the one who absconded with Bobby and Kyle and went back home," Karla reminded him with a teasing grin. "Why? Would you have missed me if I'd gone?"

"Aye but they'd had a time of it," he said quickly. "An' me mam would've scolded me if I hadn't brought 'em home for her t'fuss over." Totally couldn't help smiling back though. "Aye, I'd've missed ye an' ye wouldn't've gotten yer Midwinter presents."

"Your mother fusses?" Karla asked, a bit wistfully. Morton and the boyos fussed unbearably when she went home, but it was different when it was a mother fussing. They understood.

But she shoved that thought away. "Midwinter present?" she asked, drifting closer. "For me? I guess it's a good thing I stayed around."

"Terribly," he said, noticing her wistfulness but not sayin' anythin' t'embarrass her for it. And not thinkin' his mam understood much at all for that matter, but she was his mam so. "An' it's a terribly good thing y'did. Y'd have missed yer classes an' yer present an' me."

Shh, George, don't be cocky.

Of course he didn't think she understood. He was male. And thus, often wrong.

"Well, my classes anyway," Karla sassed. "Speaking of classes-- means that either you're not as observant as you think, since we share two of them. Or am I just not that noticeable?"

Yes, there was a wibble-face being directed at you, George Cooper.

"Aye, Karla who's fifteen an' a witch," he shot back, looking slightly sheepish about it. "I did notice ye."

...just forgotten about that at some point.

"I must've gotten lucky to end up wit' ye in both me classes."

That was him trying to get out of the wibble-face, oh yes.

"Oh, now you remember me." She wibbled at him for another heartbeat more, then grinned. "And you're nothing to worry about?"

Not that Karla had been paying attention to him or anything. Perish the thought. "And Professor Loki called me the liar."

"I'm pure innocence and p'liteness," he assured her, unable not to grin back. "An' ye were lyin' t'him wit' yer assurances of bein' no trouble whatsoever. So ha."

"Is this the face of a troublemaker?" Karla asked, pointing.

George smirked at her. "Jus' as much as mine is."

"I suppose that's true," Karla decided. "Though I think I might have to hit you for that 'female thing' comment in class."

She was completely ignoring the girlfriend crack Loki had made, though. Yes, completely.

"Though, if I were busy admiring my Midwinter gift, I might forget you need a hitting."

"But I'm only tellin' th' truth," he claimed, trying to be innocent.

"Though I'd rather ye be admiring somethin' instead of thinkin' about beatin' me," George agreed. He leaned down to rummage through his bag before pulling out a handkerchief wrapped around a set of glass beads (http://pics.livejournal.com/noearsyet/pic/00009bf6) with a small golden charm on it. They were totally stolen, yes, except for the charm, but he wasn't going to admit that. "For ye. Happy Windsol and Midwinter."

And admire Karla did. Perhaps she was reading too much into things, but the fact that beads were dark blue and silver had her melting inside. "It's beautiful!" she said, holding the beads up to the light to see them better. "And...is it magic?"

He was so totally beaming a lot that she liked them. "Aye," he admitted, totally proud of himself. "Jus' th' charm, an' ye can put it on somethin' else d'ye like. Me mam made it. Tis a protection charm. From bad magic an' th' like."

George paused then added quickly. "Not that ye can't be doin' it yerself, but -"

"Why would I do that?" Karla asked, already putting the charm on. "You matched Glacia's colors perfectly."

And then she heard what the charm was for. And nearly launched herself over the desk to give him a hug. "You gave me a protection charm? This is the sweetest gift I've gotten all Windsol!"

Males protected and served. He was trying to protect her. To Karla, it was utterly romantic.

She was also possibly reading more into it than George had meant. Which was probably behind her decision to try to thank him with a kiss.

"Aye, tis - 'm glad ye like it," he managed, totally stunned by the reaction but it wasn't like he wasn't going to kiss her if she wanted to.

He was so totally going to be proud of himself forever.

Glacia's colors and a protection charm. George had officially made it to 'utterly dreamy.' She wondered how he'd known. Had he asked Dinah or Emma or someone before he left?

And then her arms were lacing around his neck and she was kissing him. Because, really, how else did you thank ~~a cute boy~~ someone for a gift with so much thought behind it?

There was going to come a point where George realised just how much he'd have to figure out to explain that he hadn't actually known the whole color thing, and it was just that he thought blue would look pretty with her hair, but - that time was not now.

Now was the time to wrap his arms around her waist and really, really enjoy kissing her back.

And until that time, Karla was just going to enjoy believing that not all males were oblivious to such things.

Normally, such a thought would be directed in Morton's direction, but Karla was too busy kissing George to be thinking of other males. ~~Especially ones she was related to. Because even Anne Bishop's not that cracktastic~~

Nope. She was just going to join George in the 'really, really enjoy kissing' club.
