Library [01/06]

Sam got to the library early this morning, wanting to start the semester off right. Once he'd made sure that everything was organized to his standards, he opened the doors and went back to the desk. He wasn't sure if any of the new students would be coming by, but he was ready for anyone who needed help.

"I am well, thank you," Raven said. "How have you been? Was your holiday enjoyable?"

"It was all right," Sam said. "I wasn't in as much of a celebratory mood as last year, but I got to spend time with Dean, and the break from classes was nice. Did you have a good break?"

"It was pleasant, but quiet," Raven said. "I did enjoy seeing how others celebrated, as we have no such holiday in Azarath."

She drew closer to the desk. "I met Andy yesterday," she said.

"Oh?" Sam said, trying to keep a casual tone while he didn't know how much Andy had told her. "He's a really nice guy. Like, ridiculously so. It's kind of amazing, huh?"

"He seemed very nice," Raven said. She glanced around for any errant squirrels to make sure they weren't listening in. "He told me that he is like you."

[Yo, Jen da squirrel, ixnay on the emonday oodblay.]

Sam glanced around too, before nodding. "Yeah, he is. The same demon came to both of our houses. I didn't know about him until he came here."

"I began to tell him that we were not entirely dissimilar," Raven said, "but I wished to speak to you first to make sure you trusted him." Despite people telling her that her demon blood wouldn't cause any problems, she was still reluctant to reveal it to just anyone. "He told me he has struggled with his gifts in the past," she went on.

"Andy is definitely trustworthy," Sam said. "He doesn't have a mean bone in his body, which is why I don't worry so much about him and his ability. Did he tell you what he can do?" The fact was, he trusted Raven too, but Andy was always better at explaining his own ability.

Raven nodded. "He did," she said. "His gift is not much different from how mine can be abused."

"But he wouldn't abuse it," Sam said matter-of-factly. "Just like you wouldn't abuse your ability. I don't think Andy's the kind of person the demon imagined getting for whatever his plans are, and that's a good thing."

"He was very sincere in his distress over accidentally using his powers," Raven agreed. "I told him he was not alone in that, that I have used mine unknowingly as well. How have you been doing with exploring your gifts?"

"Um. I've been doing really well, actually," Sam said with a smile. He really was tired of hiding this stuff from absolutely everyone. "I explored, and I found new ones."

"You did?" Raven said, intrigued. "What else have you discovered you can do?" She fleetingly wondered if her own abilities could to taught to another with demon blood.

Rather than try to explain it to her, Sam decided to show Raven instead, and motioned to the mug of pens and pencils in front of him, focusing to use his telekinesis to move it in a short line across the desk.

"That is indeed a useful gift," Raven said, impressed. "Can you move larger objects as well?"

[I sleeeeeeeeeeeps.]

"I can, but it takes more effort," Sam said. "I've been practicing though and it's getting easier. I...I'm trying to look at this like you do, like I can use these abilities for something good. It doesn't have to be for whatever the demon wants, not if I don't want it to be, right?"

[Mmmm sleep I should do that too. :D]

"That is what I believe," Raven said. "My father gave me my gifts to use to hurt others, but I only use them to heal. It is my will and my choice, not his."

Oh, Raven. Such an enabler.

"And Andy and I have wills of our own too. We don't have to use our abilities for anything bad," Sam said. "We can be strong like you are."

Raven was a great role model! Like Anakin!

"I do not always think I am strong," Raven said, ducking her head. "But if I can choose my own path with my abilities, I know you and Andy can as well."

"Well, with that kind of confidence in us, we'll be fine," Sam said with a smile.

Raven gave him a smile in return. "And as I told you, anything I can do to help, I will gladly do so."
