Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

The benches in this section were a little further from the bonfire than the others. If people were sensible, they might want to keep all their clothes on over here, but Fandom, of course, has never been graced with an overabundance of sensible people.

"I wouldn't say a lot," Kate smirked. No blushing here. "But a reasonable amount. In carefully selected company."

"And showering, of course," Jennifer said. "At least, I'd hope."

"Oh, definitely that too," Kate laughed. "Although, after the vegetable thing I did take a shower while still wearing my clothes."

"The killer vegetables?" Jennifer said. "Oh no. What happened?"

Kate made a face. "Killed a few cucumbers which of course then exploded on me. It was gross."

"Oh, ew," Jennifer said. "I mean, I got a lot of vegetable guts on me, too. But I guess I just didn't have anything that gross."

"It was disgusting, and I felt like I could smell it on my skin for days afterwards," Kate said. "It wasn't exactly the best stunt Fandom's pulled since I got here."

"Yeah," Jennifer said. "It definitely turned me off salad for a couple weeks."

"Me too. It was just... so unnecessary. Eww," Kate concluded. "But anyways. How've you been?"

"Well, good for the most part," Jennifer said. "Home life is getting better. My room kinda feels empty sometimes, here."

"Well, that's good, about your home, I mean," Kate nodded. "But don't you-- didn't you have a roommate?"

"George left mid-term," Jennifer said. "So now it's just me, Rosencrantz, and Guildenstern."

"Oh right," Kate nodded. She'd forgotten about that. "Are Rosencrantz and Guildenstern pets of some kind?"

"Goldfish," Jennifer said. "Pretty resilient ones, too. They're just low maintenance enough for me."

"I have two plants," Kate shared. "That's about the level of responsibility I'm willing to take."

"Pretty safe choice," Jennifer said. "Did you name them?"

Kate chuckled. "The pothos is called Patrick. The cactus is still nameless 'cause I keep forgetting to ask Leto for proper desert plant names."

"Leto's big on desert plants?" Jennifer said. "I don't think Alice ever mentioned that."

"I don't think he's big on desert plants, as such," Kate said, "But he does come from a desert. And I got the cactus from him. So I think it should have an Arrakis name."

See how well she avoided doing anything about the mention of Alice?

"Oh, cool," Jennifer said, not even noticing. She wasn't aware at all about the... love triangle or whatever it was.

"My goldfish are just plain old goldfish. Hence good old normal names."

Normal names. Really.

Really, it was starting to look more like a rectangle by now. And love had very little to do with as far as Kate was concerned.

At least that's what she told herself. Moving on.

"Normal names," Kate echoed, amused.

"So, how was your Christmas?" Jennifer asked, changing the subject a little.

"Christmas was good. Very, very lazy and normal and kinda boring, which is good," Kate said, smiling. "I went home for a while."

"Me too," Jennifer said. "Time with the family is always good. Okay, usually good. But the sentiment is always there."

"Usually, yeah," Kate allowed. "I was happy to be back in Fandom too, though."
