Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

The benches in this section were a little further from the bonfire than the others. If people were sensible, they might want to keep all their clothes on over here, but Fandom, of course, has never been graced with an overabundance of sensible people.

Emma was perfectly happy to claim a spot for people-watching by the bonfire, occasionally sipping from her hot coco.

Yes, she'd made it Special, and no, you couldn't have any.

"I missed you," Jack said, wandering over. "Is the Big Apple still in one piece?"

"It was still standing when I left, even after Kennedy and I took a group through the Village," Emma laughed. "Hello, darling. Did you enjoy a new century?"

"You and Kennedy?" Jack said. "I would have liked to see that. But yes, it was nice. A few parties, some time with Rebecca ... if anything it was quiet."

Emma patted the seat next to herself. "We were magnificent," she laughed. "And how is your sister? Enjoying having a brother again?"

"Oh, she doesn't approve of Sebastien and was trying not to say that," Jack said airily, as if it bothered him not at all. "But she's doing well. I think she finds DCI Garrett an agreeable mistress."

"Did you find another little sibling to indoctrinate? Mine is called Roy."

Right, as if Emma would fall for that, and she just raised an eyebrow at him. But this wasn't the place to push, and she could wait.

"Someone called Marco, but I'm not impressed," she sighed, waving off the mention of her sibling. "He's a tool."

"It sounds like a name for a tool," Jack said, not mincing words. (And totally ignoring the other thing.) "Marco." He made a face. "Mine's fine, just a little surprised by the place. Apparently Dinah -- an older Dinah -- is his mother figure at home and he came on to the one here."

"Tweety? A mother-figure? I fear for the future generations," Emma said, making a face. "Your new sibling needs better taste."

"She's pretty enough." Not precisely Jack's type, but that had to do with her being a good six inches taller than he was. And the bouncing. He wasn't attracted to bouncing. "It's a strange island. I can spare him some latitude."

He raised an eyebrow at her. "Did you know someone looking to be set up with a redhead?"

"I don't know, is he cute?" she asked. "I'm not setting anyone up without some basic information, darling, not even for you."

"Not bad, for a ginger," Jack said sulkily. She was supposed to say no. "I don't even know if he's looking."

"Well if he's already hitting on Tweety of all people, I'm sure he's interested," Emma commented dryly. "Too bad he seems to like blondes, or I'd point him towards Jeannie."

Her mouth quirked in a slight smirk. "Don't be sulky, Jack. It doesn't suit you."

"So what does suit me?" Jack teased, grinning up at her. "I'm desperate for your opinion, Emma. And I didn't know you were so close to Miss Gray as to care about her social life."

"I don't care about her social life, but I do care about my amusement for turning an amorous boy into her path," Emma corrected. "That's what suits me."

She reached out to flick her fingers through his curls. "And that smile suits you much more than that gloomy face, as you well know."

"For you I'll keep on the brave face," he said, genuinely relaxing under her touch. "Can you believe we've been here since May? I feel quite the grizzled veteran."

"You? Grizzled? Hardly. You look the picture of youth and innocence to those who don't know any better," she teased, perfectly happy to continue petting him. A little bit of spoiling after having his sister pick at his vampire probably would not be amiss. "Almost a year, and I have another year to go."

"And then college and more school," Jack reminded her. He adored the petting. "... which I suppose is the customary thing, if I stay in this time."

This was Jack's way of asking if she thought he should try to go.

"Emmaaaaaaaaa," Bobby drawled, flopping down next to her.

"Boooooooooooooooooooooobbby." Emma was going to lean over to ruffle his hair. "How was your vacation, darling?"

Bobby could've ducked out of the way of the hair-ruffling, but didn't.

"Part was not so great, part was pretty awesome." As if there were any point in lying to a telepath.

"Tell us about the 'not so great' first, and that way we can end on a happy note," Emma said.

"Um, there was a sentient island that tried to eat me?" Yeah, that was never gonna sound less weird. Until something weirder came along to top it, anyway. "And Scott's brother is a jerk." Ooh, strong words.

"Yes, well, your Scott isn't exactly a sterling example of manhood with that stick up his ass, darling," Emma pointed out. "It must run in the family."

"I wouldn't be surprised," Bobby snorted. Sure, Scott was his friend, but he couldn't deny the stick-up-his-ass allegation.
