Fandom High Welcome Picnic, Front Lawn of the School, All Day: Part III

The benches in this section were a little further from the bonfire than the others. If people were sensible, they might want to keep all their clothes on over here, but Fandom, of course, has never been graced with an overabundance of sensible people.

[Please wait for OCD! OCD is up! This is the SECOND post for general mingling. Use this post if your browser can't handle the comment load of the first mingling post. Roommates, fake siblings and teachers are here. Since it's outside, the picnic is open to all students, teachers, and townies!]

The inquiries about his name hadn't been that bad so his nametag (Nobody Owens with some newly scrawled Latin underneath it) remained stuck to his chest.

He'd gotten a drink sometime in between walking and was now close to the fire, letting his warm his cheeks and fingers.

"Still wearing a shirt, I see," Helen said conversationally.

Bod looked down at said shirt and then back up at Helen. He nodded. "I tend to wear shirts when it's cold outside."

She looked around pointedly at a number of the shirtless students and shrugged. "It's sort of a tradition. I'm surprised no one has tried to convince you yet."

"No one has tried to convince me." Truth be told, he hadn't even really realized so many male students weren't wearing shirts. "It seems like an uncomfortable tradition for winter."

"I could try and convince you if you'd like," Helen offered. "Would't want you to feel left out or anything."

All right, she might be looking just the slightest bit mischievous.

"I don't think I could stop you from trying," said Bod, looking a little amused. "I don't know how successful you'll be. It's cold out here. I wouldn't want to get frostbite."

Helen looked at him assessingly, eyes still sparkling. "Hmmm... How about... but you're so close to the fire, you'd be nice and toasty warm? "Or," she tried to keep as straight a face as possible, without great success, "I could always keep you warm. Or introduce you to others who'd be glad to help."

She grinned at him. "Honestly, I'm not sure I could find a reason that would convince you. Not without knowing you better."

Bod could appreciate honesty even if she was trying to get him to remove clothing. He pulled one hand out of the pocket of his jacket and let the cool air hit his fingers, chilling them.

"I didn't know so many people would be willing to help warm a complete stranger just to fulfill a tradition," he said, looking around. "Have you managed to convince others?"

"Two," she admitted. "Even promised to nurse them back to health should they take cold. An offer I'm glad to extend to you."

"So is the nametag an emo thing," Elena asked, "or do your parents have a sick sense of humor?"

Nobody was really a cruel sort of name, when you thought about it.

"If I say the answer is neither, would you be surprised?" Bod asked, shrugging both shoulders but not looking bothered by the questions about his name.

"Not especially," Elena said, chewing her lower lip and speculating. "Maybe you were raised in another language and someone thought it made for an interesting name."

"No, that's not it either," Bod replied, shaking his head. "It's not an emo thing and my parents don't have a sick sense of humor. It's just what they named me. I didn't look like nobody but myself. So, they called me Nobody."

They being ghosts, of course. He'd asked about his name one day, curious why he wasn't a John or a William. He'd ended up liking the story and liking his name because of it.

"That's ... actually an interesting reasoning," Elena said, frowning a little as she pieced it out. "I think I'm Elena just because my mom liked the name."

"Hullo, Elena," he said, offering a hand to her. "I like that name. I've never heard it before. I go by Bod, if that helps. Nobody can be a mouthful sometimes. And confusing at others."

"It's mine, so there's that," she said with a smile. She'd given up her last name upon joining the Turks; it was all she had. Good thing she liked it.

She took his hand. "Hi, Bod. I imagine you get plenty of puns, at least. 'Nobody likes ice cream' and so forth."

"Before you, I hadn't heard it. Now, I have and I'll always remember you as a first," he said, giving her a hand shake before tucking it back close to his side. "But yes, you're right. If I've heard one pun, I've heard them all. I don't tend to mind them. And if I hear a new one, it can even be amusing."

The fact that a frog was talking to him didn't do anything to Bod might give him slight pause. After that passed, he asked, "Requests for what?"

"A song." Robin lifted his banjo to indicate it. "I can play the guitar too, but I left that in my room."

Even without knowing the song, the music was nice though Bod's expression didn't change much, he was attentive and enjoying the song.

Muppets didn't have a lot of facial expressions either.

When he finished the song, Robin gave a little bow.
