Timing had worked in Bruce's favor this morning. After a long overnight flight from Japan, he was really early for the shuttle to Fandom. That was according to plan. This way he'd get to see how people came into the room marked "Fandom High," whether they were nervous, or excited, or annoyed at the very thought of having to go to school.

Those first impressions didn't necessarily mean anything, but Bruce felt they often gave a good insight into how his new classmates would react in a stressful situation. You never knew when that kind of thing might come in handy.

A tall black teenager dressed in rather worn out jeans and a hoodie stepped into the room carrying an overstuffed duffel bag and nothing else.

From the looks of him you wouldn't have expected that he had just stepped off a private jet owned by a prestigious law firm.

Gunn scanned the room and gave a curt nod before settling down in a corner of the room to check out any other students who might be arriving.

Figuring he might as well start his socializing right away, Bruce greeting Gunn. "Good morning," he said, settling into a friendly tone. "Since you're here, I'm guessing you're another new Fandom High kid?"

"Yeah that would be a keen observation," Gunn noted as he sized Bruce up. "I'm Gunn. You the welcoming committee?"

"Maybe the de facto one since I was here first," Bruce said. "Bruce Wayne."

"Glad to meet you Brucie," Gunn replied showing a little too much familiarity. "So. You new to this private school thing? I was expecting sports jackets with large patches on the front as soon as I walked in here."

"I had that when I was younger," Bruce said, not showing any reaction to the nickname. "At that age it was sweaters. Fandom sounds like it's a little different, though. You should be able to get away with what you're wearing."

"You saying worn out jeans and a hoodie is the uniform?" Gunn joked. "Looks like you might have to dress down then to my level."

"I actually do have that in my bag," Bruce noted. "I apparently came well prepared."

Of course he did.

"Hey," Roy said, leaning forward and resting his elbows on his knees. "I'm Roy. You new, too?"

"Very new," he replied checking out the guy and his gear. "I'm Gunn."

He nodded at the custom case that Roy was handling as precious cargo in his other thread. "Bringing your own golf clubs?"

"Bow and arrows," Roy said casually. "It's a hobby. Why, you golf?"

"Nah. Just figured a private school would be all about the golf," Gunn said with a shrug. "Compound or long bow?"

"Longbow and recurve," Roy said. "My teacher had a thing about compound bows."

Well, the big kid looked scary, but... then again, so did Logan. Kurt gave him a nod. "What up, yo? How's it hangin'?"

He would have failed at sounding 'street' ANYWAY, but the thick German accent didn't exactly help.

Gunn just looked down on the kid as if he were nuts. "Who are you trying to be with that accent and the slang."

And then with a trace of sarcasm. "Yo."

Kurt chuckled nervously and backed up a step. "Uh... just trying to be friendly, ja? ... Uh, hello?"

"Hey," Gunn said looking amused at the reaction. "Don't sweat it. Where you from? Germany? I'm from LA. Call me Gunn."

"New York state," Kurt answered, because he thought he was funny. "Can't you tell?"

He let that hang for a moment before following up with, "...well, Bavaria, originally. But I've been in America for a while. I'm Kurt."

"Yeah, you got New York written all over you," Gunn drawled. "You switching schools or something?"

"Hey, you know how further this school is?" Jacob asked Gunn, mostly because he was sitting closest, really.
