Ethics [Thursday, December 17, 1st period]

"Welcome to your Ethics final," Anakin said, pacing around the classroom. "I will provide you with a series of scenarios. You tell me which option you would pick, and why. Since this is Ethics, there are no black and white correct answers to anything. What matters to me is that you have some sort of reason for your choice. If your logic is faulty or snide or clearly half-assed, that's when I will become...unhappy."

Hayley thought for a second and then answered again with ease and speed.

"D. I mean, there's other ways of getting cooperation than threats, right? Maybe you can bribe her or tickle her into giving up the info. It might be fun! Plus blowing up planets seems kinda wrong and who'd want to do that?"

She grinned, like the cat that caught the canary.

Jonas didn't find any of the options really suitable. He shied away from the threats of violence automatically and eventually selected one.

"D," he said after some time spent thinking. "There should be another way to coerce the prisoner into talking. Violence would probably work but I can't see myself wanting to see it, knowing it could be used on me. So, D. Find another way of coercion."

Raven blinked. "I cannot imagine myself in such a situation," she said.

"I don't really like any of these," Tara said softly. "I guess D. I'd find some kind of magic. Maybe a truth spell."

And this time, Katchoo looked a bit queasy.

"I dunno what they're rebelling against," she finally said. "So I'm gonna have to go with none of the above."

Emma just grinned, but it wasn't very friendly.

"None of the above, again. Telepath," she practically sang, tapping the side of her head. "And if, for some reason, I can't get in her head, she gets to watch me play 'blow up a capital city.' I'm not wasting the resources of an entire planet for one rebel base. That's bad policy."

Elena visibly blanched, at this one, but her face was still as unexpressive as she could manage.

"B," she said. "We need to find the base, and threatening to destroy her planet will certainly motivate her. If ... if she thinks we're bluffing, and the rebellion is serious enough ..."

Then ... C.

She was a Turk.

"Um, a." Bobby said, even though he was far more likely to be on the 'rebel' side of this scenario were it real life. "I'm not going to blow up a planet, that's not fair to um... everyone on said planet. And empty threats aren't much of a bargaining tactic," he shrugged. Any of the X-Men's regular enemies would see through such a bluff far too easily.

"A," Ellie said simply. "I can't imagine myself threatening an entire planet."

"If it was absolutely vital that I needed that information, that the rebels were a danger to the innocent people of my Territory, then I would take that information from their mind. Going through someone's inner barriers is generally wrong, but..." she shrugged. "Being a Queen is about making the tough choices. Using a weapon that could blow up my planet is foolish since it would destroy everything, especially when there are other ways to get it."

"I don't think I could blow up a planet," Rose said, looking down. "So B. If additional coercion was necessary, that's fine too."

Wow, did Francine kind of hate this scenario. Possibly because she'd stood there and watched while something fairly similar minus the planet-blowing had happened, in Firekeeper's world. She'd also been the planet, on a smaller, tied-to-a-chair scale. Shut up about her mass and gravitational pull.

"D. You don't threaten innocent people to get what you want, but if it's important, you don't just give up, either."
