Ethics [Thursday, December 17, 1st period]

"Welcome to your Ethics final," Anakin said, pacing around the classroom. "I will provide you with a series of scenarios. You tell me which option you would pick, and why. Since this is Ethics, there are no black and white correct answers to anything. What matters to me is that you have some sort of reason for your choice. If your logic is faulty or snide or clearly half-assed, that's when I will become...unhappy."

Hayley again found this one easy.

"B. I mean, unsavory means sweet, right? Which means they'd be really nice things for people who probably don't have nice things happen to them, because people think they're creepy. They probably need a little sweetness, and maybe they'd even stop being creepy! It'd be a win for everyone. I wouldn't die, and people would get nice things done and they'd no longer be creepy!"

It wasn't so much that her logic was faulty, just her thinking in general.

"A," Jonas said again, shifting uncomfortably at the morbidity of these questions. "I wouldn't want to waste precious time looking for a cure when I could be spending it with someone I love especially if said cure might not be guaranteed."

Raven chose D again. "I am a healer," she said simply. "If it were an illness, I would cure it. If it were destined to be an act of violence that would take my life, then I would do whatever I could to avoid that fate."

"This question kind of assumes you're male," Tara pointed out, frowning. "I -- I guess I'd do b)? I'd be mad at myself, and I wouldn't do anything that really hurt anybody, but I'd f-feel responsible if I let somebody I loved die."

The answer to this one was pretty easy, Katchoo thought. Kinda funny; getting shot in the liver tweaked your perspective on these things.

"Make the most of the time," she decided, which was about as much of a right-between-the-eyes revelation as it was an obvious answer. Geez. Smart one, Choovanski.

. . . this was, of course, an answer that didn't count on half-siblings with way too much pull and way too many resources and considerably less than even she had in the way of moral compunction.

"Again, these options are insufficient. Terminate the pregnancy," Emma said coldly. "If you're that desperate for children, I'm sure there's some scrappy orphan somewhere that wouldn't complain about getting a home of their very own."

"If, for some godforsaken reason, that isn't an option, then you do what needs doing."

"B," Elena shrugged. "If it's the lover that's pregnant and not me, I mean. If it's me, I deal with the situation myself. If it's someone I love, I do what's necessary to save them."

"It's not so much that I'd never get married as I can't see myself having kids," Bobby admitted. "I mean, I like 'em, but... it's not a good idea." He'd just be bringing them into a world of trouble, especially if he managed to pass on his mutant genes. Canon ten or so years down the road says b, though.

"None of the above," Ellie answered. "If it were me, I would choose the best option that saves the mother, which would mean terminating the pregnancy. And if the mother refuses, then I'd go with A."

"My best friend is a Healer and the most powerful witch to ever walk the Realms." Karla said skeptically. "Even if I can't use Craft because I'm pregnant, she sure could. Alternately, if my body was under the impression that the pregnancy was too dangerous for me, it would take the necessary steps to keep me safe. I'd never be able to bear children again, but I'd be alive."

"B," Rose said after a bit of thought. "I'm not going to be pregnant, but if it was Lissa who was pregnant I'd do whatever I could to save her. Part of the job."

Ow. Even if that wasn't quite what Francine had seen in a fevered haze of futures, it was close enough. "I guess... a and b? The future isn't set in stone. I'd try to change it if I could, but I hope I'd know where to draw the line."
