DADA for Muggles, final class [Wednesday]

It had taken Remus and Sirius slightly less time this go around to program the Danger Room to do what they wanted (Sirius contended it was because it had threatened the computer with a good hexing, but that was debatable), but for a final examination, the professors felt that a bit of effort should be expended.

"Welcome to your exam," Sirius said with a slightly fiendish smile, extending his hand to encompass the scene before them: a large grassy area (complete with a different castle in the background. They missed Hogwarts a bit, so hush) covered in a variety of obstacles. "Hopefully you remember what you have learned. You will encounter a series of practical exercises in order for us to determine how prepared you are to face the Dark Arts in every day life. Good luck. If you get too hexed to continue, Professor Lupin and I will step in, but I don't think that will be entirely necessary."

Priestly picked out a likely bean and looked around for someone he could trick coax into eating it for him.

"Bleah. Bean-flavored bean." Dinah tried another one. "Gaagggh flavor, ugh." She gave another one a mistrustful look, then sighed and bit into it. Then made squeaky noises of pain as the heat from a pure chili pepper tried to burn through her tongue.

At this point, Alex was at the point where even if he ate a stupid beet flavored one, he'd lie and say it was pepper.

Luckily, he didn't get a beet flavored bean. Unluckily, he got a sulfur flavored bean. Lovely.

He spent some more time rooting around for the correct bean, face screwed up in disgust.

Yeah. These were only getting nibbled at until she found the right bean.

After going through brussel sprout and banana skin, Effy wasn't even sure she actually wanted to find a pepper-flavoured one.

Diana's first bean was a sardine one. After that, she very carefully would split them down the middle with her nail and lick at the inside. Weird, but effective.

Lemon custard, ear wax, grass, rubber, root beer, dirt, pepper. In that order.

Actually... pepper didn't taste all that different from dirt.

This might be tricksy, considering that her taste buds had been compromised by decades of smoking and drinking. Jenny poked through the jelly beans tentatively with one index finger, looking for one that looked like it might be pepper. She was thinking grey. Maybe that one?

No. Cigarette ash, unless she missed her guess. What about...there it was. And now she was lighting a cigarette to help get the flavor out of her mouth, ugh.

Sam carefully took a bean, and smiled when he ended up with mint. That had gone a lot better this time.

Momoko had to think about this one. She cast her mind back and couldn't remember if she'd tried one that had tasted like pepper! She stared at the possibilities and finally decided on one that was kind of whitish with dark spots on it. Because pepper looked like black spots if you spilled it, right?

Or did they mean pepper, like a chile pepper? Or maybe the green one was what she was supposed to pick; after all, it looked like a green pepper! But that one had been green apple flavoured, hadn't it? Or was it grass...

Thirty-two tries later, Jack had the pepper-flavored one. Or he just couldn't tell the difference anymore.
