In the center of the room, surrounded by random tiny pine trees was a small green creature in a cage, looking very, very cranky.

But then, so was Sirius. He'd gotten bit the night before as they'd been capturing the gremlin for class and had spent a very uncomfortable hour singing about a cake he'd left out in the rain (and he'd never have that recipe again, oh no). "This is a gremlin," he said, pointing with his wand.

Remus was in much, much better spirits today. Mostly because he'd told Sirius to wear gloves, but had he listened? Nooo. So Remus got to laugh at that terrible, terrible song. "I understand that some of you may have already had some experience with these lovely creatures. While they aren't exactly dark creatures, they certainly are irritating, aren't they?"

"Yes," Sirius answered sulkily for them. "Please share any experiences you've had with these...things...and then feel free to come closer and examine it. If you get bitten, I will laugh."

Because Sirius was all about nurturing the students.

"And there are gloves," Remus added, gesturing to the box. "Should you choose to employ them." He looked sidelong at Sirius, smirking slightly.

"Thank you, Moony," Sirius replied, glaring back.

"He spent a lot of time looking at his own hand," Andy said. "Then he wanted to look at my hand. Then he got the munchies and we went through all the junk food I had in my room for those kind of emergencies. Then he went with me to do Sam's and my radio broadcast."

Stop giggling like an idiot, Sirius.

"Sounds educational," he said, chortling.

"It was entertaining," Andy said. "If you can get past the whole biting thing, gremlins are actually a lot of fun."

"Do you think they could be convinced to do chores?" Sirius asked thoughtfully.

No, Sirius. They aren't house elves.

"Well I could," Andy said. "I can pretty much convince anyone to do anything."

Sirius cocked up an eyebrow. "Compulsion's an Unforgivable, you know."

Andy spread his hands. He'd given that a lot of thought since the class on unforgivables. "It's not like I actively went out and asked to be able to do it. I just can. And if I don't work on controlling it, it pops out on its own. So you might as well say my very existence is unforgivable..."

Sirius nodded, looking thoughtful. "Like Parseltongue," he said. "Only I've never heard of someone with your power. Maybe Professor Lupin has. He's been paying more attention than I have in the last few years."

"There's a whole lot of things here that I've never heard of before," Andy pointed out. "Kinda makes it seem like if you can imagine something, it probably exists somewhere."

"But overriding someone else's will," Sirius added, "you can see how that would raise hackles."

"Well yeah, of course," Andy said. "I'm not stupid. But you can hold a gun on someone and make them do your will that way too and that would raise just as many hackles if you're doing it for selfish reasons, to rob or hurt somebody. But it's different if it's for self defense or to save someone else. I try to look on what I can do in the same way as if I had a loaded gun -- I would never use it to hurt anyone."
